What they need
Barback Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Barback to join our vibrant hospitality team. You will keep the bar running smoothly by supporting our bartenders, making sure the bar is stocked, clean and ready for service, and helping us deliver an exceptional guest experience. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about hospitality who wants to learn from a skilled bar team and build a career in cocktail culture. The position is paid and suits anyone with a keen interest in the food and beverage industry. Previous experience is a plus, but we are happy to train the right attitude.
About Flip Dog Bar
FlipDog is a contemporary, two-level cocktail bar in the heart of Old Street. The venue champions a method-driven approach to modern cocktail culture, where technique leads and flavour follows. Every detail is designed to celebrate precision, creativity and the art of craft.
The venue is structured around two distinct experiences. At street level is an intimate 15-seat space inspired by the dynamic nature of pop-up installations, creating an environment that can constantly evolve over time and through collaboration. Beneath it, an 80-seat lower level offers a more refined setting, quiet, composed, and focused on technique-led drinks and considered service. The interior was crafted by YOD Group, the award-winning Kyiv-based studio renowned for spaces that balance creativity with precision.
Each drink is built on method, and the most visually impactful is the colonial-era Loggerhead, a forgotten ritual revised with intention. An iron poker heated to 1200°C is plunged into a cocktail to caramelise sugars, modify texture and intensify flavour, with a dramatic flourish.
Flip Dog Bar offers an internal growth system, allowing team members to develop both within the London project and across the brand’s international bar projects. We support career progression from operational roles to leadership positions and involvement in new openings. Flip Dog Bar is a place for long-term growth and an international career.
Working Schedule
Primarily Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM.
Responsibilities
- Set up and stock the bar before service: ice, garnishes, glassware, juices, syrups, spirits, beer and wine.
- Restock throughout service so bartenders never have to leave their station, and keep fridges, speed rails and back bar full.
- Prepare garnishes and assist with basic prep as directed by the bar team.
- Collect, wash, polish and return glassware promptly, handling it carefully at all times.
- Keep the bar, floor, workstations and back-of-house areas clean, organised and compliant with food safety and hygiene standards.
- Receive and put away deliveries, rotate stock (FIFO), and keep storage areas tidy and labelled.
- Monitor stock levels and flag shortages to the bar manager.
- Change kegs, replace bottles and handle waste and recycling.
- Support bartenders during busy periods by anticipating needs and keeping the pace of service up.
- Support guest service where needed, including clearing tables and assisting the floor team, always with a warm, professional attitude.
- Follow responsible alcohol service practices and licensing laws, and support the bar team in upholding them.
- Uphold health and safety standards at all times, including safe handling of glassware, equipment and cleaning chemicals. Work around specialist equipment, such as the Loggerhead poker, only after training and under supervision.
- Close down the bar at the end of the night, including cleaning, restocking for the next shift and following the closing checklist.
Skills and Requirements
- Experience in hospitality, ideally in a bar, restaurant or cocktail venue (not essential, as full training is provided).
- Knowledge of food safety and responsible alcohol service, or a willingness to learn.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks during busy periods.
- Good time management, with a sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical fitness: you will be on your feet for long shifts, crates and carrying stock.
- Friendly, reliable and team-oriented, with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Genuine interest in cocktails and craft bar culture, and the drive to grow into a bartending role.
This role offers an engaging environment where you can build your hospitality skills while helping create memorable experiences for our guests. We welcome applications from enthusiastic individuals eager to grow within the food and beverage sector.
