What they need

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland’s most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It’s like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC’s 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.

Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.

The Role

The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking an energetic Barista to join our Catering & Events team. In this role, this individual will create exceptional experiences for our members and guests by crafting high-quality coffee and espresso beverages while delivering warm, attentive service. You'll play an important role in maintaining beverage quality, supporting efficient café operations, and ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming environment that reflects the Club's commitment to excellence.

Schedules vary based on business needs and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso, and other specialty beverages according to established recipes, presentation standards, and service expectations.
  • Deliver friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive service by helping members and guests with menu selections, product information, orders, and customizations.
  • Maintain beverage quality and consistency through proper preparation techniques, coffee dialing, and attention to detail.
  • Operate espresso machines, grinders, point-of-sale systems, and other café equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Follow established workflows and station procedures to support timely service, including during busy periods.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards throughout the espresso bar, equipment, storage areas, and workspaces.
  • Restock products and supplies, rotate inventory, and assist with waste tracking to support product availability and quality.
  • Process member and guest transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Identify and communicate equipment issues, maintenance needs, safety concerns, and service challenges to the appropriate lead or manager.
  • Stay informed on menu offerings, ingredients, coffee products, and brewing methods while participating in ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Support a collaborative team environment by demonstrating professionalism, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Assist with other Food & Beverage operations and special projects as needed.

What You'll Bring

  • At least six months of barista or specialty coffee experience; experience in a high-volume café, restaurant, or hospitality environment preferred.
  • Experience operating commercial espresso machines, grinders, point-of-sale systems, and other café equipment.
  • Knowledge of espresso preparation, brewing methods, coffee quality standards, and beverage recipes.
  • Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and safe food-handling practices.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to create positive experiences for members and guests.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and composure during busy service periods.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly with beverage preparation, order accuracy, cleanliness, and equipment care.
  • A team-oriented mindset and willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute wherever needed.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to accurately process transactions and handle cash.
  • Current Oregon Food Handler Card, or the ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts.
  • Frequently perform repetitive hand and arm movements while preparing beverages, stocking products, cleaning, and operating equipment.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, and move supplies and products weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely around hot liquids, steam, and commercial food-service equipment.

At Multnomah Athletic Club, we believe in taking care of our team members. We offer a wide range of benefits to ensure your well-being, both inside and outside the club. Here's what's in it for you:
