About the Role

The French Avenue is a specialty coffee and dessert café in Irvine, California, dedicated to serving quality beverages, thoughtfully presented desserts, and a welcoming customer experience.

We are looking for a dependable, service-oriented Barista who enjoys working with coffee, takes pride in presentation, and values a clean and organized workspace. The ideal candidate has hands-on café experience, understands espresso fundamentals, and can comfortably communicate with customers in both English and Chinese.

This position combines coffee preparation, guest service, point-of-sale operations, and assistance with dessert presentation. If you enjoy a team-oriented environment where product quality and customer satisfaction matter, we would love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

1. Prepare Coffee and Specialty Beverages

• Prepare espresso-based drinks and other café beverages according to established recipes and quality standards.
• Adjust grinders and monitor espresso extraction to maintain beverage consistency.
• Steam milk properly and create latte art when applicable.
• Clean and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other beverage equipment throughout the shift.

2. Create a Welcoming Customer Experience

• Greet guests, explain menu options, and provide thoughtful recommendations.
• Enter orders accurately and process cash and electronic payments through the POS system.
• Communicate clearly with customers and coworkers to ensure smooth service.
• Respond professionally to routine customer questions and bring more complex concerns to the shift lead or manager.

3. Support Dessert Presentation and Café Operations

• Assist with plating desserts, arranging pastries, and preparing simple food items as needed.
• Follow portioning, presentation, storage, and food-handling procedures.
• Keep the coffee bar, preparation counters, dining area, and service equipment clean and organized.
• Follow applicable food safety, handwashing, sanitation, and temperature-control requirements.

4. Work Effectively as Part of the Team

• Coordinate with coworkers during busy service periods.
• Restock supplies and maintain an orderly work area.
• Follow opening, closing, and shift handoff procedures as assigned.
• Complete other reasonable café duties related to daily operations.

What We're Looking For

• At least one year of hands-on barista experience in a café, specialty coffee shop, or similar food-service environment.
• Professional proficiency in both English and Chinese for customer service and workplace communication.
• Practical knowledge of espresso preparation, grinder adjustment, and milk steaming.
• Latte art experience is a plus.
• A friendly, attentive, and customer-focused approach.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to manage multiple tasks during busy periods.
• A collaborative attitude and willingness to learn established recipes and service standards.

Additional Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must hold a valid Food Handler Card or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire, subject to applicable requirements.
• Must be available for scheduled shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
