Pay Range: $16.00–$19.00 per hour, based on experience

Role Overview

The Barista at Petit Play Café is responsible for preparing high-quality coffee and beverages while helping create a warm, welcoming experience for families from the moment they walk through the door. This part-time role blends café service with light front-of-house support, ensuring guests feel oriented, cared for, and comfortable throughout their visit.

Baristas play an important role in maintaining the calm, thoughtful atmosphere that defines Petit Play, balancing efficiency, hospitality, and attention to detail in a family-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee & Beverage Service

• Prepare and serve espresso drinks, drip coffee, and specialty beverages according to Petit Play standards.
• Maintain consistency, cleanliness, and quality in all beverage preparation.
• Assist guests with menu questions and provide thoughtful recommendations when needed.
• Operate café equipment safely and responsibly.

Guest Welcome & Check-In Support

• Greet families warmly as they arrive and assist with basic check-in flow.
• Answer general questions about the café and play space, directing guests as needed.
• Help create a smooth, calm first impression for both children and caregivers.

Front-of-House Care & Operations

• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the café counter, seating areas, and shared spaces.
• Clear tables, wipe surfaces, and assist with resets throughout the day.
• Support light inventory tasks, including restocking cups, lids, milk, and other café supplies.
• Communicate supply needs or maintenance issues promptly to leadership.

Team & Space Support

• Collaborate closely with Play Hosts to ensure a smooth flow between the café and play areas.
• Assist during busy periods with flexibility and a team-first mindset.
• Support light setup or breakdown for events and parties as needed.
• Follow all health, safety, and sanitation standards.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a barista, in food service, or in a customer-facing hospitality role is preferred.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, family-oriented environment.
• Friendly, calm, and professional demeanor with both adults and children.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Food safety certification and/or barista training is a plus, or a willingness to obtain required training.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and move for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Comfortable performing repetitive tasks and working in a busy environment.
