What they need
Who we are
At Hotel Indigo, we welcome all guests into our neighbourhood and share our love for the place we call home. We inspire them to explore and discover different perspectives, so every one of them can create new stories of their own. With over 125 properties worldwide, we look for individuals who can inspire our guests to make unique discoveries — opening the door to meaningful connections with the diverse people, places and cultures of the local area.
Taking centre stage in midtown Auckland, Hotel Indigo Auckland stands as a testament to the vibrant intersection of history, arts, culture and business. Our boutique hotel soars above the city’s skyline in one of midtown’s tallest buildings, where we’ve masterfully preserved the historic charm of the original façade — once home to Dexter and Crozier’s “The Motor House” — while creating a fresh, modern hospitality experience.
As a Bartender, you will create expertly prepared drinks while delivering polished, engaging and personalised service. You will bring extensive cocktail knowledge, confidence behind the bar and a genuine passion for understanding guests’ preferences and introducing them to new flavours and experiences.
You will also contribute to cocktail development and costing, confidently curate customised drinks for guests and support the smooth operation of food and beverage venues across the hotel.
This is a full-time position offering between NZD $25.00 and $30.00 gross per hour, depending on skills and experience, with a minimum guarantee of 30 hours of work per week.
A little taste of your day-to-day
- Prepare and serve classic, contemporary and signature cocktails to a consistently high standard, using your knowledge of spirits, flavour profiles, techniques, garnishes and presentation.
- Engage confidently with guests, understand their preferences and curate customised cocktails suited to their tastes and dietary requirements.
- Contribute to the development, testing and costing of cocktails, ensuring consistency, quality and commercial viability.
- Deliver knowledgeable, attentive service while confidently recommending and upselling beverages, seasonal offerings and menu pairings.
- Maintain excellent bar presentation, preparation, cleanliness and stock organisation, while minimising waste and breakages.
- Accurately enter orders, process payments and manage guest accounts in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Maintain strong allergen awareness, communicate accurate information to guests and comply with responsible service of alcohol, health and safety requirements.
- Work collaboratively across the hotel’s food and beverage venues, supporting the restaurant and wider front-of-house team to provide a seamless guest experience.
What we need from you
- A minimum of three years’ professional bartending experience within high-end, cocktail-led bars or comparable luxury hospitality venues.
- Extensive knowledge of classic cocktails from around the world, with familiarity with recognised cocktail resources, including Difford’s Guide.
- Strong mixology expertise and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary and signature cocktails, spirits, wines, beers, flavour combinations and professional bar techniques.
- Demonstrated experience creating, testing and costing cocktails, with an understanding of quality, consistency and commercial considerations.
- The ability to prepare high-quality cocktails efficiently and consistently during busy service periods.
- Strong knowledge of beverage allergens, dietary requirements and appropriate measures to minimise cross-contact risks.
- A polished, confident and personable service style, with the creativity to understand guest preferences and curate customised cocktails on request.
- Familiarity with Shiji Infrasys is highly regarded. Strong experience using a comparable hospitality POS system and the ability to learn Shiji quickly will also be considered.
- Sound knowledge of responsible alcohol service and relevant New Zealand requirements.
- English fluency or professional working proficiency, with clear verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster across evenings, late nights, weekends and public holidays, and a willingness to support different food and beverage venues across the hotel when required.
- The physical ability to remain on your feet throughout a shift and safely lift or move items weighing up to 23 kg.
