About the role

Liar Liar is a new Japanese Restaurant and bar in Melbourne bringing together the spirit of Japan and Melbourne's rich multicultural tapestry with a forward-thinking and highly experimental approach to cocktail creation. The bar operates two creative philosophies: forward-thinking experimental work with an advanced cocktail lab, and casual crafted classics done the Liar Liar way. Our team works with air distillation, fermentation, washing, and advanced techniques. We are committed to building a team that supports one another, learns together, and creates an environment where both staff and guests feel genuinely looked after.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute signature cocktails from concept to glass
• Work with advanced techniques including air distillation, fermentation, washing, and other experimental methods
• Contribute to cocktail lists and participate in local and international competitions
• Engage in structured learning modules, product knowledge sessions, bar takeovers and masterclasses
• Maintain efficiency, consistency and professionalism during service
• Bring positive energy to service with colleagues and guests
• Participate in building the venue as a collective and provide feedback for continuous improvement

About you

• Minimum 2 years experience in a cocktail-focused environment
• A genuine interest in sustainability and ethicality
• Strong enthusiasm for creative exploration within cocktails
• A naturally curious, forward-thinking mindset
• A collaborative, humble approach—eager to learn and contribute without ego
• Ability to bring positive energy to service while maintaining efficiency, consistency and professionalism
