Assistant Manager / Bartender – Full-Time

$25/hour for Manager-on-Duty shifts + bartender wage and tips for bartending shifts

The Cigar Box Bar & Lounge is looking for an experienced hospitality professional to join our Westfield team in a unique hybrid Assistant Manager / Bartender position.

This role is ideal for an experienced bartender, shift lead, or hospitality professional who enjoys working behind the bar but is also ready to take on greater leadership responsibility.

You'll have two distinct roles depending on the shift: some shifts you'll work as a bartender and earn bartender wages plus tips; other shifts you'll serve as the Manager on Duty (MOD) and earn $25 per hour while leading the entire operation.

This provides an opportunity to maintain the earning potential and guest interaction of bartending while developing your leadership and management experience.

Schedule & Compensation

This is a full-time position averaging about 35–40 hours per week, with a mix of bartending and management shifts.

Manager-on-Duty shifts: $25/hour
Bartending shifts: Bartender hourly wage + tips

Even when you're the Manager on Duty, this is a hands-on leadership position. Our managers don't supervise from the sidelines—they support the team, interact with guests, solve problems, and jump in wherever they're needed.

Evening and weekend availability is required.

Assistant Manager / MOD Responsibilities

When serving as Manager on Duty, you will:

• Lead and support bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff
• Set the standard for hospitality and guest service
• Direct the flow of the lounge during busy periods
• Coach employees and provide constructive, real-time feedback
• Address attendance, performance, and operational issues appropriately
• Handle guest concerns professionally and make sound decisions
• Oversee reservations, large parties, and private events
• Ensure POS, tab, payment, and cash-handling procedures are followed
• Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed correctly
• Monitor cleanliness, atmosphere, organization, and presentation throughout the lounge
• Ensure company policies and service standards are consistently followed
• Identify inventory, staffing, maintenance, or operational issues
• Complete accurate Manager on Duty reports and communicate important information to ownership and management
• Take ownership of the shift and proactively address problems as they arise

Bartender Responsibilities

When scheduled as a bartender, you will:

• Provide friendly, attentive, knowledgeable service
• Prepare cocktails accurately and consistently
• Serve bourbon, whiskey, wine, beer, and other beverages
• Make knowledgeable recommendations based on guest preferences
• Take food and beverage orders and accurately enter them into the POS
• Start and manage guest tabs
• Maintain an organized, clean, and fully stocked bar
• Follow established recipes and pour standards
• Verify identification and follow responsible alcohol-service practices
• Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, glassware, and supplies
• Complete opening and closing responsibilities
• Work closely with servers, kitchen staff, and management
• Help create the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere our guests expect

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates will have:

• 2+ years of bartending, restaurant, bar, or hospitality experience
• Strong bartending skills and knowledge of spirits, beer, wine, and classic cocktails
• Previous shift-lead, supervisory, training, or management experience preferred
• Natural leadership ability and confidence in making decisions
• Excellent guest-service and communication skills
• Excellent attendance and punctuality
• The ability to stay calm, organized, and positive during busy shifts
• The willingness to coach and hold team members accountable when necessary
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through
• Comfort working independently and taking ownership of a shift
• Reliable transportation
• Availability to work evenings and weekends

You do not need to already be an Assistant Manager to be considered.

Cigar & Whiskey Knowledge

Experience with cigars, bourbon, whiskey, or premium spirits is a plus, but extensive cigar knowledge is not required.

We can teach product knowledge.
