Bavarian Lodge

We are building a real cocktail program. We need two bartenders who want in.
The Woodsman Pub is where the day ends at the Bavarian Lodge. Guests come down off the trail, in from the Christmas lights, or straight from their room, and locals walk in alongside them — for a plate of good food and a drink worth sitting over. It is a warm, wood-lined room inside Leavenworth's #1 rated hotel on Tripadvisor, and for a lot of our guests it is the part of the stay they talk about when they get home.
The bar has changed a lot in the last year. We built a cocktail list from nothing, brought in premium spirits, and moved onto a modern point of sale with tableside ordering. This winter the drink list roughly doubles — hot beverages, house syrups and shrubs, and a Bavarian-themed menu built after our owner's trip through Bavaria.
We are hiring two part-time bartenders ahead of Village of Lights, our busiest season of the year. This is not a seasonal job. We are looking for people who want to stay.
You would be working a full bar — beer, wine, spirits and a growing list of craft cocktails — heading into a December when the hotel is sold out and the pub is busy the entire month.
WHAT YOU'D BE DOING
BEHIND THE BAR

Work a full bar — beer, wine, spirits, and our craft cocktail list — at the pace a sold-out weekend demands.

Build every cocktail to the build sheet: correct spirit, correct measure, correct glass, correct garnish, correct ice. A drink should taste the same on a Tuesday as it does on the Saturday of Village of Lights.

Batch, prep and par-stock ahead of service. The weekends we do well are the ones we set up for on Thursday.

Pour responsibly. Check ID whenever there is any question of age, pace or refuse service when a guest has had enough, and know that the liquor license protects every job in the building.

Keep the bar, back bar and service stations clean and stocked throughout service — not only at close.

ON THE FLOOR

Greet every guest warmly, touch every table during the visit, and know the menu well enough to guide someone to the right drink or dish.

Take orders tableside on our mobile devices, run food, bus and reset, and close out guest checks.

Resolve guest problems on the spot. You are empowered to make it right, and we would rather you did it than went looking for a manager.

LEARNING THE WHOLE PUB

Every member of this team is trained across front and back of house. You would learn the service side, the expo window and the kitchen line.

That is not a bait and switch — it is how a small pub covers a holiday weekend when someone calls out. It also makes you better behind the bar, because you will know exactly what is happening to your ticket.

WHY THIS BAR

A program that's actually being built. New cocktail list, house syrups and shrubs, hot drinks for winter. You will be making things, not pouring from a gun.

Tools that work. Lightspeed point of sale with tableside ordering and tap-to-pay, molded ice in big cubes and cylinders, premium spirits on the back bar, and a manager who fights for the equipment the bar needs.

The best season in town. Village of Lights brings Leavenworth alive, and the pub is full. If you like a busy bar, December here is the reason to take the job.

A manager who came up behind the bar. Morgan runs this pub, built the cocktail program herself, and still works the floor alongside the team.

Room to grow. We cross-train everyone and we promote from within. Several of our leaders started in part-time roles.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Full bar bartending experience. You can work beer, wine and spirits in a real volume environment without a crib sheet.

Craft cocktail interest and aptitude. You do not need to arrive knowing our menu — we will train you on the program — but you should understand balance, dilution and why the garnish is not decoration.

21 or older. Washington requires a Class 12 MAST permit to mix and pour spirits, and that permit requires you to be 21.

Class 12 MAST permit and a Washington food worker card. If you do not hold them yet, we will get you set up — the MAST permit within 60 days of hire and the food worker card within 14 days, as the state requires.

Weekend and holiday availability. This is a pub in a festival town. Fridays, Saturdays, Village of Lights weekends and the holidays are when we need you most.

Willingness to learn every position. Front of house and back of house both.

Able to stay calm, friendly and accurate when the bar is three deep and the kitchen is backed up.

Reliable transportation and dependable attendance. On a holiday weekend, one no-show is felt by everybody.

HELPFUL, NOT REQUIRED
None of these are deal-breakers.

Craft cocktail or high-volume bar experience.

Experience with batching, house syrups, infusions or shrubs.

Point of sale experience — we run Lightspeed and we will teach you.

Wine or beer knowledge, or a genuine interest in building it.

Prior hotel, resort or restaurant experience.

Spanish.

THE PHYSICAL SIDE
So there are no surprises on day one:

Standing and walking for an entire shift.

Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs — kegs, cases, ice and bus tubs.

Repeated bending, reaching and working in a tight bar well.

Working around hot surfaces, glassware, knives and cleaning chemicals.

Evenings, weekends and holidays, in a loud and busy room.
