Bartender, Shift Supervisor & Social Media Specialist

The Independent (“The Indo”) is a Union Square mainstay serving up scratch dishes, curated craft beer, and exceptional cocktails. Our regulars are second to none, our team has a blast working together, and friendly service is at the core of everything we do. We’re serious about great food, great drinks, and great hospitality, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Position Summary

Are you a double threat who can hold down a bustling bar, manage the floor during a packed dinner rush, and contribute engaging stories, posts, and visual content to our online presence?

We’re hiring a Bartender, Floor Supervisor & Social Media Specialist. This hybrid role combines weekly behind-the-stick bartending shifts, shift management (MOD) floor coverage, and administrative time dedicated to supporting and executing our social media and digital marketing efforts. We want an active hospitality pro with great writing skills, an eye for dynamic media, and the flair to help turn scrolling followers into real-life restaurant guests.

What You’ll Do

1. Digital & Content Contributions

• Content Creation: Shoot photos and short videos showcasing food, drinks, events, and staff.
• Writing & Voice: Draft warm, witty captions and updates that match The Indo’s brand voice.
• Community & Promo: Respond to DMs, comments, and reviews, and team up with management to promote events and menu drops.

2. Floor Supervision & Shift Management (2 MOD Shifts/Week)

• Lead dinner service as Manager on Duty with warmth, composure, and confidence.
• Support servers, hosts, and floor staff during peak rushes to keep service running smoothly.
• Deliver seamless guest recovery so minor hiccups turn into loyal regulars.
• Execute opening and closing floor routines reliably.

3. Behind the Bar (2 Bar Shifts/Week)

• Work weekly bartending shifts as an active part of our bar team.
• Craft drinks fast and accurately while adhering to house cocktail specs.
• Bring warmth, craft beverage knowledge, and friendly, attentive service to guests at the bar.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hospitality experience, including direct bartending experience.
• Experience in floor supervision, lead bartending, or shift management.
• Strong writing and visual communication skills with experience contributing to brand/business social media channels.
• Proficiency with food & bev photography, short-form video editing, and clear copywriting.
• TIPS and ServSafe certifications preferred (or ready to complete upon hire).

Compensation

• Management/Admin Hourly Rate: $28/hour (for MOD shifts, meetings, and content creation work).
• Tipped Hourly Rate: $8/hour while in the tip pool with another manager present.

Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
