About Soelect
Soelect, Inc. is an advanced battery technology company developing next generation lithium metal anodes, advanced electrode technologies, and high energy density battery systems.
Our core technology, Lithium-X®, is an advanced lithium metal anode platform designed for next generation batteries across defense, aerospace, drones, robotics, and other high energy applications.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Battery R&D Engineer to lead battery research, cell development, experimental programs, and government funded R&D projects.
Position Overview
The Senior Battery R&D Engineer will play a key technical role in developing and validating next generation lithium metal and advanced battery technologies.
We are looking for an experienced, hands on engineer or scientist who can independently move a technical problem through:
Research Concept → Experimental Design → Cell Fabrication → Testing → Data Analysis → Root Cause Analysis → Technical Solution → Validation
This position will also support and lead federally funded R&D programs, including proposal development, technical execution, milestone management, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead R&D activities for lithium metal and next generation battery technologies.
- Design and execute battery experiments independently.
- Develop and optimize electrode materials, electrolytes, cell designs, and manufacturing processes.
- Fabricate and evaluate coin cells, pouch cells, half cells, full cells, and other experimental cell configurations.
- Conduct electrochemical testing including cycling, rate capability, Coulombic efficiency, EIS, CV, and related techniques.
- Analyze relationships among materials, cell design, manufacturing conditions, and electrochemical performance.
- Investigate battery degradation, failure mechanisms, interfaces, and performance limitations.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop technically sound solutions based on experimental data.
- Support scale up from laboratory research toward pilot manufacturing and larger cell formats.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, experimental documentation, and invention disclosures.
- Work closely with internal engineers, external cell manufacturers, universities, national laboratories, customers, and research partners.
- Mentor junior engineers and researchers when appropriate.
Federal R&D Programs
Experience with U.S. Government funded R&D programs is strongly preferred.
The Senior Battery R&D Engineer may be responsible for:
- Identifying and evaluating relevant federal R&D opportunities.
- Supporting or leading technical proposal development.
- Developing technical approaches, Statements of Work, experimental plans, milestones, deliverables, and success criteria.
- Leading technical execution after project award.
- Managing project milestones, schedules, experiments, and technical deliverables.
- Preparing technical progress reports and presentations.
- Participating in government program reviews and technical meetings.
- Communicating with government program managers and technical representatives.
- Coordinating activities with universities, national laboratories, subcontractors, and other research partners.
Experience with programs involving DoD, DOE, DARPA, Army, Navy, Air Force, NSF, SBIR, STTR, BAA, or other U.S. Government R&D programs is highly desirable.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should meet one of the following experience pathways:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related STEM field, with at least 7 years of relevant battery or electrochemical R&D experience, or
- Ph.D. in a relevant technical field with at least 1 year of post Ph.D. battery or electrochemical R&D experience.
Additional requirements:
- Strong hands on battery research and laboratory experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing experiments independently.
- Strong understanding of battery materials, electrochemistry, and cell performance.
- Experience with battery cell fabrication and electrochemical testing.
- Strong data analysis and technical problem solving capabilities.
- Ability to interpret experimental results and translate findings into subsequent engineering actions.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to independently lead technical projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
