What they need
JD: BD Manager – Chartering
Industry: Maritime Operations / Vessel Management Systems / Bunker Trading
Location: Athens, Greece or relocation to Athens, Greece.
About the company:
The company is a fully integrated shipping and trading group with a global footprint, operating from offices in Greece, Cyprus. This is an international player in the maritime, shipping industry, operating its own fleet alongside a broad network of shipping and trading relationships across multiple regions. Built on deep, decades-long shipping expertise, the business works with ship owners, charterers, and maritime service providers worldwide. It is now entering a new stage of growth, strengthening its financial structure and internal processes to support scale and long-term stability. The company owns and commercially manages a diversified dry bulk fleet ranging from Handysize to Capesize, and provides time charter, voyage and operational solutions to shipowners and charterers across the world's major dry bulk trades.
The group moves in excess of 19 million metric tons of cargo annually, operates around 80+ vessels globally, and concludes more than 300 cargo fixtures a year.
The Role:
We are looking for a BD Manager (Chartering) to open new commercial ground for The Company on a global basis. This is a hunter role , distinct from an operational chartering position: rather than managing an existing book of relationships, you will actively map the market, identify cargo owners, charterers, operators and accounts the company does not currently work with, and build the relationships needed to bring them in. Once an account is opened, you will hand it off to the chartering desk to be developed into fixtures and ongoing business, while you move on to the next opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively map global chartering markets by segment and region to identify cargoes, owners, charterers and operators that fall outside The Company's current network.
Research and monitor what competitor and peer companies are doing: their accounts, trade lanes and client relationships to spot gaps and opportunities.
Initiate and build relationships with new accounts (cargo owners, charterers, shipowners, operators, brokers) through direct outreach, industry events and existing networks.
Qualify new business opportunities and bring them to a stage where they can be handed off to the chartering team for execution and ongoing development.
Represent The Company at industry conferences, chartering events and trade gatherings to expand visibility and the company's network.
Work closely with the chartering and operations teams to ensure a smooth handover of new accounts and alignment on target segments.
Track and report on market coverage, pipeline development and new account performance to the CEO / commercial leadership.
What We're Looking For:
Prior experience in chartering, you understand how a fixture comes together and can speak credibly with owners, charterers and brokers.
A track record of opening new markets, accounts or client relationships from scratch, rather than solely managing existing ones.
Commercial and analytical background is a strong plus, e.g. experience in commodity trading, market/trade-flow analysis, or a similar client-facing analytical role.
Comfortable working with a global scope across multiple regions and cultures; existing networks in shipping, chartering or commodity trading are a significant advantage.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, with fluent English; additional languages relevant to shipping markets are a plus.
Self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and building a function – process, tools and targets – largely from the ground up.
Willingness to travel as needed to meet counterparties and attend industry events.
What We Offer
A high-visibility role reporting directly into senior leadership, with real influence over which markets and accounts the company pursues next.
The opportunity to shape a new function within a growing maritime group, with room to grow into a team-leading role as the pipeline develops.
Based in Athens, Greece, with exposure to The Company's international operations.
Compensation to be discussed based on experience (base + performance-linked incentive structure).
Other offers great for you!
