What they need
Canyon ABA
Behavior Technician (BT) / Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
Two Client-Specific Openings | Lower East Side, Manhattan & Woodside, Queens | Part-Time | In-Home ABA Services
Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour
About This Role
Canyon ABA is hiring Behavior Technicians (BTs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) for two dedicated, client-specific positions — one in the Lower East Side, Manhattan and one in Woodside, Queens. Both are in-home roles with consistent, predictable schedules. You may apply for one or both openings.
At Canyon ABA, we practice neuroaffirming, evidence-based ABA therapy. We respect and celebrate neurodiversity, and we build on each client's individual strengths. You will be joining a practice with an active, growing client base — no waitlists, immediate impact.
Opening 1 — Lower East Side, Manhattan
About This Client
Our client is a teenage girl who communicates by typing on a speech-generating device, reads independently, and is a strong tablet-based learner. She is bright and capable. She also needs a BT who is calm, consistent, and skilled at supporting her through difficult moments — particularly around transitions away from her preferred device.
Schedule & Commitment
This is a committed weekly schedule — not a pick-your-own-hours arrangement. Once you select your shifts from the available options below, we expect you to be present for those shifts every week without exception. Consistency is not a preference here — it is foundational to our client's progress.
Available shifts:
- Monday – 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
- Tuesday – 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
- Wednesday – 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Thursday – 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
- Friday – 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday – flexible (up to 6-hour shift available)
- Sunday – flexible (up to 6-hour shift available)
You do not need to cover every shift. We are building a coverage team and will work with the shifts you select. Schedules are set once confirmed — we are not able to accommodate ongoing changes based on personal preference.
What You'll Be Working On
Under BCBA supervision, you will implement an individualized ABA therapy program. Primary focus areas include:
- Reducing dependence on tablet/screen time while maintaining the device as a motivating reinforcer
- Supporting grooming and self-care independence
- Building basic household and chore skills
- Teaching safety awareness and elopement prevention
- Expanding leisure interests beyond preferred devices
- Accurate data collection and session documentation
What to Know Going In
This client's primary behavioral trigger is tablet or device deprivation. Behaviors can include screaming, running, throwing objects, headbutting, and spitting. She also has limited safety awareness, and elopement risk is an active consideration.
We are not looking exclusively for someone who has seen it all before — though experience is welcome. We are looking for someone who stays regulated under pressure, shows up without fail, and genuinely cares about the person in front of them. A full behavior plan, structured training, and consistent BCBA support are provided from day one.
Opening 2 — Woodside, Queens
About This Client
Our client is an 11-year-old boy who is low verbal — he communicates primarily through 1-word requests and is learning to use break requesting to manage demands. He is large for his age, sweet and funny, and genuinely wants to connect — he just doesn't yet have the communication tools to do it reliably. He works on community outings, increasing table time, simple math and reading, and building his relationship with his mom.
This role requires a BT who is comfortable accompanying the family on community outings and who can support structured, positive mother-child interaction. Reducing aggression toward his mom — driven by the absence of reliable functional communication — is the primary priority.
Schedule & Commitment
This is a committed weekly schedule. The same expectations apply here as for the LES opening — once shifts are confirmed, we expect you to be present every week without exception.
Available shifts:
- Friday – 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM
- Saturday – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Sunday – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Schedules are set once confirmed — we are not able to accommodate ongoing changes based on personal preference.
What You'll Be Working On
Under BCBA supervision, you will implement an individualized ABA therapy program. Primary focus areas include:
- Appropriate attention-getting with mom — the primary aggression replacement behavior
- Requesting interaction and joint attention
- Protesting appropriately
- Break requesting (target: 28% → 90%)
- Social communication and personal information
- Following 1- and 2-step directions
- Sorting, categorization, and attributes
- Self-help skills: spoon use and bathing
- Accurate data collection and session documentation
What to Know Going In
This client's primary behavioral concern is aggression toward his mother, driven by attention-seeking in the absence of reliable functional communication. He can also have difficulty accepting redirection and tolerating 'no.' Sessions take place both in the home and in the community — you must be comfortable in both settings and prepared to coach family interaction in real time.
We are not looking exclusively for someone who has seen it all before — though experience is welcome. We are looking for someone who stays regulated under pressure, shows up without fail, and genuinely cares about the person in front of them. A full behavior plan, structured training, and consistent BCBA support are provided from day one.
