Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct care, supervision, and support to clients in a residential substance use disorder treatment setting. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while supporting clients in their recovery journey. The BHT works closely with clinical and leadership staff to ensure compliance with program standards and regulatory requirements.

• Assist with meals, hygiene, and facility upkeep

• Assist with groups, telehealth, transport
• Other Duties As assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Must possess and maintain an active Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician (RADT), Substance Use Disorder Registered Counselor (SUDRC), or Registered Technician in Sober Living Services (RTSS) registration/certification in good standing, as applicable.

Certificates & Licenses

• Valid Driver’s License
• CPR/First Aid Certification required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies)

• Basic knowledge of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to crisis situations
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
• Ability to operate a vehicle, transport clients, and run errands as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Schedule

This position may require working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts based on program needs.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
• Ability to perform duties in a fast-paced and sometimes high-stress environment

Work Environment

• Residential treatment setting
• May involve exposure to clients in crisis

Compliance Requirements

• Adhere to all company policies and procedures
• Maintain strict confidentiality of client information in accordance with HIPAA and applicable laws
• Comply with all safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements
• Complete required background checks, drug screening (in accordance with applicable law), and health screenings, including TB testing
• Report suspected abuse, neglect, or safety concerns in accordance with mandated reporting laws
