About Bright Horizons

Bright Horizons Recovery Home is an 8-bed residential treatment center in Millcreek, Utah operating an integrated co-occurring clinical model, informed by IDDT principles. We provide psychiatric stabilization, medication management, individual therapy, and structured recovery programming for adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. We operate under Utah Administrative Code R501-19.

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct resident care and milieu support in a structured residential treatment setting. BHTs are the heartbeat of the program — present on the floor, building relationships with residents, enforcing structure and accountability, and ensuring physical and emotional safety around the clock. This role works closely with the Program Manager, clinical team, and Psych NP to implement individualized treatment plans and support resident progression through the phase system.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and support to residents during all assigned shifts
  • Monitor resident safety, behavior, and emotional status; report changes to clinical staff immediately
  • Implement and enforce the Resident Phase System including Block-Out restrictions, pass procedures, and lights-out policies
  • Conduct required searches and drug/alcohol screenings upon resident return from off-site activities per policy
  • Document shift observations, incidents, and resident behavior accurately in SimplePractice
  • Facilitate structured activities, group check-ins, and house meetings as assigned
  • Provide client transportation as required by the resident schedule and/or direction of the Program Manager, ensuring safety and adherence to program policies
  • Administer and document medications under clinical supervision per MAR protocol
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic milieu environment
  • Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation techniques and established crisis protocols
  • Support the residential milieu by monitoring resident behavior, reinforcing program expectations, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment
  • Assist with daily operations of the residential program, including crisis support, de-escalation, and coordination with staff during resident needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning, safety, and quality of care within the residential treatment center
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and supervision as scheduled
  • Complete all required documentation within designated timeframes
  • This position requires the physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, lift and carry up to 50 lbs (e.g., supplies, equipment), and respond rapidly to emergent situations, including de-escalation or physical intervention when necessary to ensure client and staff safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health, residential care, substance use, or a related human services setting preferred
  • Lived experience in recovery considered an asset
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Valid Utah driver's license with clean driving record (if transporting residents)
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

What We Offer

  • Paid training and ongoing professional development
  • Supportive, mission-driven team environment
  • Opportunity to make a direct impact in the lives of individuals in recovery
