About the Role
Advanced Contracts (Midlands) Ltd. is looking for an experienced and skilled Bench Joiner to join our workshop team.
We undertake a wide range of carpentry, joinery and building maintenance projects, including work within NHS hospitals, healthcare facilities, local government, schools and other commercial environments.
This is primarily a workshop-based position, manufacturing and assembling high-quality bespoke joinery components before they are installed on site by our teams. Work on site may be required from time to time so a CSCS card or ability to obtain one is required for this role and the candidate must be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
The successful candidate will take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work and will be comfortable working from drawings, specifications and measurements. Attention to detail is particularly important, as many of our projects require joinery to be manufactured to a high standard for use within occupied healthcare and commercial environments.
Typical projects include:
- Bespoke countertops and worktops
- Doors and door sets
- IPS units
- Vanity units
- Cubicles and partitions
- Bespoke cupboards and storage
- Timber components and assemblies
- Interior fit-out items
- General bespoke joinery and carpentry
- Repairs, alterations and modifications to existing joinery
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture and assemble bespoke joinery components accurately and efficiently.
- Work from drawings, specifications, measurements and job requirements.
- Measure, mark out, cut, machine and assemble timber and sheet materials.
- Use a range of traditional hand tools and modern woodworking machinery safely and competently.
- Produce work to a consistently high standard, with particular attention to accuracy, finish and fit.
- Carry out adjustments, modifications and remedial works where required.
- Complete finishing, preparation and minor decorating/touch-up work where appropriate.
- Work alongside other members of the workshop and site teams to ensure projects are completed on time.
- Ensure completed work is appropriately protected and prepared for delivery or installation.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Follow company health and safety procedures and report any issues promptly.
- Take responsibility for the quality of your own workmanship.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
- Previous experience working as a Bench Joiner, Workshop Joiner or experienced Carpenter/Joiner.
- Good practical knowledge of joinery manufacturing and assembly.
- The ability to accurately interpret drawings, specifications and measurements.
- Competence using woodworking hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery.
- A high level of attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Good time-management skills and the ability to work to agreed deadlines.
- A positive attitude and willingness to take responsibility for the quality of your work.
- A good understanding of workplace health and safety.
Qualifications
A Level 2 or Level 3 Carpentry/Joinery NVQ or equivalent is required.
Desirable Experience
Experience of any of the following would be advantageous:
- Manufacturing joinery for NHS, healthcare or commercial environments.
- Working to detailed specifications and client requirements.
- Door and door-set manufacture.
- IPS and vanity unit manufacture.
- Cubicle and partition systems.
- Bespoke furniture or fitted units.
- Working with laminates, solid timber, MDF, plywood and other sheet materials.
- Installation experience alongside workshop manufacture.
- Basic knowledge of associated trades such as plumbing, electrical work or general building maintenance.
What We Offer

- £18.00 per hour following successful completion of a 3-month probationary period.

- Monday to Friday working.
- Standard working hours of 7:30am – 4:30pm.
- 20-minute morning break and 40-minute lunch break.
- Two-week Christmas shutdown.
- Company uniform provided.
- PPE provided.
- Company vehicle (dependant on job role).
- Training and development opportunities where required.

- The opportunity to develop your skills within an established carpentry, joinery and building maintenance business.
Training
Training will be provided where appropriate to support the successful candidate in carrying out their role safely and effectively.
