Bench Technician Trainee - Electronics Repair (Lab Assistant)

I'm Michael. I run Northland ECM in Princeton, MN. We repair diesel truck engine computers (ECMs) down to the component. The bench is busier than my technicians can keep up with, and I need a reliable set of hands so they can stay on the hard work.

This is an entry-level, learn-on-the-job spot. No electronics background required. You need to show up, follow a written procedure exactly, keep things organized, and want to learn a real trade.

What you'd do day to day:

• Receive incoming units, log them in, tag and shelve them

• Clean and prep ECM housings and boards (blast cabinet, ultrasonic, solvents)

• Open, photograph, and close units following our checklist

• Pack and ship finished units, print labels, keep the shipping area stocked

• Keep the shop clean and organized: parts, tools, trash, consumables

• Learn soldering and basic rework at the bench as you go. We'll teach you.

Must-haves:

• Reliable and on time, every day

• Follows instructions and checklists to the letter, asks when unsure

• Careful hands and attention to detail, comfortable working under a microscope after training

• Can lift 40 lb and stand at a bench most of the day

• Lives within a reasonable drive of Princeton (Princeton, Milaca, Zimmerman, Cambridge, Elk River, St. Cloud area)

Nice-to-haves:

• Any shop, mechanic, assembly, warehouse, or inventory experience

• Hobby electronics, computer building, soldering, small-engine or auto tinkering

• Shipping or forklift experience

Pay and path: $20-24/hr to start depending on experience, part-time or full-time. This shop promotes from the bench. The technician role above this one pays $28-40/hr, and the last person I hired started by learning our process and is already moving up. Do the job well and the training is real. The interview is a paid couple of hours at the bench, not a quiz.
