About the Company

Our client is a leading international renewable energy developer and independent power producer (IPP) with a strong presence across multiple European markets. The business develops, finances, builds, and operates utility-scale renewable energy assets, with a growing focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support grid stability and the energy transition.

As part of its continued expansion, the company is seeking an Energy Storage Project Engineer to support the technical development of standalone and co-located BESS projects across Germany.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and engineering assessment of utility-scale BESS projects from early-stage development through Ready-to-Build (RtB).
• Conduct feasibility studies, system sizing, and technical evaluations to support project development and investment decisions.
• Collaborate with project development, grid, commercial, and permitting teams to ensure project viability and technical alignment.
• Develop and review technical documentation, specifications, and engineering deliverables.
• Support supplier selection, technology assessment, and technical due diligence processes.
• Optimize project designs to improve technical performance, constructability, and commercial outcomes.
• Provide technical input for tenders, commercial proposals, and stakeholder presentations.
• Monitor market developments, emerging technologies, and industry best practices within the energy storage sector.
• Act as a technical interface between internal teams, consultants, equipment suppliers, and external stakeholders.
• Support the standardisation of engineering processes, technical methodologies, and performance indicators across the portfolio.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience delivering or developing utility-scale renewable energy and/or battery storage projects.
• Strong understanding of BESS technologies, power systems, and electrical infrastructure.
• Knowledge of grid connection requirements and energy storage project development processes.
• Experience conducting technical due diligence, feasibility assessments, and engineering studies.
• Ability to evaluate and compare technical solutions from suppliers and engineering partners.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commercial mindset.
• Fluent German and English language skills.

Conducting technical feasibility studies for standalone and co-located energy storage projects.

Preparing technical documentation and engineering deliverables in line with regulatory, quality, budget, and project schedule requirements.

Supporting project development teams with technical expertise throughout the full development lifecycle.

Developing technical concepts and solution catalogues for commercial proposals, tenders, and stakeholder presentations.

Evaluating and optimizing energy storage system designs to improve project feasibility, performance, and financial returns.

Performing electrical and energy system analysis for utility-scale renewable energy and storage projects.

Managing interfaces between project development, engineering, suppliers, consultants, and other key stakeholders.

Conducting supplier assessments, technical due diligence, and technology evaluations to support project decision-making.

Monitoring market developments, emerging technologies, and innovation within the energy storage sector.

Establishing technical methodologies, performance metrics, and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Supporting public and private tender submissions with technical input and documentation.

Ensuring technical consistency and risk mitigation across multiple project development workstreams.

Strong understanding of electrical engineering, energy systems, grid-connected infrastructure, and renewable energy project development.

Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on technical and commercial project optimization.

Proficient in electrical and energy system design tools, technical modelling, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).

Fluent in German and English with experience operating in multinational project environments.
