Averity

Are you a Microsoft Fabric specialist who wants to own the whole platform instead of one slice of it?
What's the Job?
As the BI Data Architect, you'll be the in-house Fabric authority for one of New York City's most iconic cultural institutions. This is a brand-new seat — you're not inheriting someone else's architecture, you're designing what comes next.
The organization has run two successful Fabric pilots with a Microsoft medallion partner and proved the model works. Now they want that expertise in-house. You'll own the data architecture end to end: ingestion, ETL/ELT, lakehouse design, governance standards, and the Power BI layer that business users actually touch.
You'll report to the Director of BI, sit on a four-person BI team, and work directly with the CIO on the data roadmap.
Some of what you'll be doing:
<ul>
<li>Designing and managing pipelines and lakehouses in Microsoft Fabric — moving data through Bronze, Silver and Gold layers</li>
<li>Building out data governance: standards, documentation, quality monitoring, security</li>
<li>Partnering with analysts to turn architecture into dashboards people trust</li>
<li>Mentoring the team and bringing the wider organization along toward self-service BI</li>
</ul>
Who Are We?
We are a world-renowned New York City performing arts institution, presenting the finest artists on our stages for well over a century, and running music education and social impact programs that reach more than 800,000 people a year. We are a nonprofit with a genuine mission — and a small, tight technology group inside it.
What Skills Do I Need?
<ul>
<li>5–10 years in data architecture, data engineering or BI engineering</li>
<li>Real, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience — this is the one thing we can't flex on. Pipelines, Dataflows, Notebooks, Lakehouse/OneLake</li>
<li>Working knowledge of medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) in production</li>
<li>Strong Power BI — enterprise reporting on governed models, not just report-building</li>
<li>Advanced T-SQL and the Azure data stack (Data Factory, Data Lake Storage)</li>
<li>Python for data engineering and automation</li>
<li>A real grasp of data governance, security and compliance</li>
<li>Excellent communication — you'll be training and supporting non-technical business users every week</li>
</ul>
Nice to Have
<ul>
<li>Azure API Management / API-first architecture</li>
<li>SSRS</li>
<li>Curiosity about how good architecture and data quality underpin ML and GenAI work</li>
</ul>
Compensation
<ul>
<li>$140,000 – $150,000</li>
<li>Excellent benefits, including a pension after a qualifying period</li>
<li>Summer Fridays</li>
<li>A real 9-to-5 culture — no weekends, no on-call heroics</li>
<li>On-site five days a week for the first three months, then eligible for hybrid (3 on-site / 2 remote) at your manager's discretion. This is not a remote role.</li>
</ul>
What's In It For You?
You get to be the person who defines how a globally recognized institution uses its data — with the platform decisions in your hands and a leadership team that already believes in the work.
