What they need

ABOUT BJU PRESS & THE ROLE

Vision: We want Christian education to be transformational in the lives of students as they grow in their faith and knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mission: We produce transformational products and services for Christian educators.

Brand promise: We empower educators to prepare students to live in light of eternity.

About the Team: The Biblical Worldview team spearheads the mission of BJU Press by designing K-12 textbooks to foster a biblical worldview in students. Biblical worldview specialists accomplish this by casting a vision for biblical worldview shaping, training employees to develop educational materials according to this vision and providing accountability for implementing this vision.

Role Summary: Biblical worldview specialists work primarily with writers, instructional designers, editors, scriptwriters, and video instructors to ensure that all BJU Press materials support the development of a biblical worldview in students, teachers, and parents. The heart of their work is designing the biblical worldview shaping framework of BJU Press textbooks and holding project teams accountable to implement biblical worldview shaping material accordingly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research academic disciplines to discover how they are rooted in creational design, determine how they have been damaged by the Fall, and develop strategies to restore them to what they should be.

  • Review competitor materials from both Christian and non-Christian publishers in order to develop strategies for worldview formation.

  • Meet weekly with department management to plan projects and receive direction.

  • Work alongside writers and instructional designers to plan, write, and revise objectives, instructional materials, and assessments that support the BJU Press mandate for biblical worldview formation.

  • Meet regularly with teams (writers especially) to evaluate progress and plan success.

  • Assist BJU Press in promoting biblical worldview shaping in new opportunities.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

  • Organizational skill to manage varied, overlapping tasks
  • Proficiency in academic research
  • Good communication abilities
  • Skill in wisely resolving conflicts arising from differences of opinion related to worldview formation
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Capacity to motivate and mentor team members (especially writers) to achieve performance goals related to biblical worldview shaping
  • Interest in and ability to develop educational materials

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Background in the field of education
  • Master’s degree in biblical or theological studies – typically an MDiv – and 2+ years of experience in a relevant discipline/field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, other departments, and customers

An applicant for a position in the Bob Jones University group — Bob Jones University, Bob Jones Academy or BJU Press — must be a born-again Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Each applicant must agree with and affirm the Bob Jones University creed, mission (see https://www.bju.edu/about/creed-mission.php (https://www.bju.edu/about/creed-mission.php)) and core biblical doctrines regarding areas such as the Bible, the triune God, man and salvation, etc. Employees are expected to maintain a conservative lifestyle and support the group’s positions on issues such as beverage alcohol and addictive substances, creation, marriage and human sexuality and the sanctity of life, etc., (*https://www.bju.edu/about/positions.php (https://www.bju.edu/about/positions.php)*). Employees are to be active members of a local Bible-believing church which holds orthodox theology. Whether in the classroom, online, through student activities, or through the preparation of educational materials for Christian schools and homeschool families, applicants must be committed to providing students an excellent, worldclass education from a biblical worldview that prepares them for a lifetime of service for Jesus Christ.
