Bicycle Mechanic/Technician

Job Overview

The Service Department and technicians are essential components of Sunflower responsible for the service and repair of our favorite machines on two wheels. We believe a well-taken care of bicycle makes for a more enjoyable ride and embodies our ethos to care for the environment by helping the components on our customers’ bikes last longer. Service technicians are also responsible for assembling new bicycles, providing regular maintenance, troubleshooting issues, installing accessories, and consulting on upgrades. We accomplish this by building relationships with our customers by listening to their needs and providing solutions through elevated and friendly service.

Duties

The Service Technician is to intake and service bicycles and equipment consistent with Standard Operating Protocols set forth by the Service Manager. Customer service and communication skills are important to work with service customers and provide them with the best service for them and their equipment. Technicians are responsible for maintaining a clean and functional workspace; this includes taking care of tools, shop supplies, and basic maintenance of the shop. The service department and technicians are responsible for assembling and maintaining bicycles for sale, maintaining Rental Bicycles, and servicing bicycles and equipment. Technicians will also help with bicycle and equipment sales, as well as other tasks at the discretion of the Service Manager or Bicycle Sales Manager

• Collaborate with Service Manager to complete work orders on Lightspeed Service
• Communicate with vendors on special orders and parts ordering
• Provide work availability and submit Time Off Requests on Homebase App 3 weeks in advance
• Listen to and understand customers’ needs and provide friendly (not condescending) and comprehensive customer service
• Build and repair bikes to a high standard with attention to detail
• Consult with customers and install accessories and components
• Maintain shop rental fleet
• Respond to customer inquiries within 1 business day and track customer interactions within CRM system (Ikeono)
• Assist the Service Manager with Inventory management of repair equipment, frames, components, and parts
• Assist the Service Manager in resolving any issues or complaints in a professional and timely manner
• Handle money, process transactions, and create work orders using the point-of-sale system (Lightspeed) according to standard protocol
• Be proficient with proper bike check-ins and processes on point-of-sale according to Standard Operating Protocols
• Assist with keeping the store and shop in great shape: general cleanliness, small repairs, restocking, ensuring Sunflower is set for success
• May occasionally work local cycling or community-oriented events
• Communicate with the Service Manager and co-workers through text, email, and other means

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week
