Job type: Full-time, permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, on a rolling Monday–Saturday rota

Why work for us?

At Specialized, we believe bicycles have the power to change lives, and we're looking for an experienced and passionate bicycle mechanic who shares that belief.

We are a busy, independently owned Specialized Concept Store in Harrogate, specialising in high-performance road, mountain and electric bikes. Our customers expect the highest standards of service, and we take pride in delivering exactly that.

Our workshop services a wide range of bicycle brands, from everyday servicing and maintenance to advanced diagnostics, repairs and custom builds. As a Specialized Concept Store, you'll also have the opportunity to work with some of the latest bikes, components and technology available in the industry.

You'll be joining an established, friendly team in a well-equipped workshop, supported by a dedicated Workshop Leader who oversees bookings, parts, customer communication and the day-to-day organisation of the workshop.

Although your primary responsibility will be servicing and repairing bicycles, we're a team that works together. Everyone plays a part in looking after our customers, whether that's answering a phone call, offering advice, checking in a bike or handing over a completed repair.

What we can offer

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Performance-related bonus opportunities.
  • Generous staff discounts on bikes, accessories and components.
  • 32 days' paid annual leave, subject to confirmation.
  • Regular daytime working hours.
  • Access to industry training and development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to work with the latest Specialized bicycles and technology.
  • A friendly, experienced and supportive team.
  • On-site parking and shower facilities.
  • Fantastic road and off-road riding right on our doorstep.

The role

As a Workshop Technician, you'll be responsible for completing servicing, repairs, diagnostics and bicycle builds to a consistently high standard.

Working alongside our Workshop Leader and wider team, you'll be expected to manage your allocated workload efficiently, communicate clearly with both colleagues and customers, and take responsibility for the quality of your work.

We're looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their workmanship, works methodically and understands the importance of getting the details right.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing a wide range of bicycles, including road, mountain and e-bikes.
  • Building and preparing new bikes, ensuring they're ready for customers to enjoy.
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues and carrying out repairs to a high standard.
  • Working alongside our Workshop Leader to keep jobs running smoothly and completed on time.
  • Providing friendly, knowledgeable advice to customers, whether that's answering questions, taking calls or handing over completed bikes.
  • Keeping clear records of work completed and following our established workshop procedures.
  • Helping maintain a clean, safe and well-organised workshop.

Above all, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys working as part of a team and shares our commitment to looking after customers.

Essential qualities and experience:

  • Previous professional experience working as a bicycle mechanic or workshop technician.
  • Strong technical knowledge of modern bicycles and components.
  • Confidence carrying out a wide range of servicing, repairs and maintenance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage allocated work efficiently.
  • A reliable, professional and conscientious attitude.
  • Friendly, approachable communication skills and confidence dealing directly with customers.
  • A willingness to support colleagues and contribute to the wider running of the workshop.
  • A commitment to following workshop procedures and maintaining high standards.
  • Basic computer literacy for workshop management and service records.

Desirable experience and qualifications:

  • Cytech Level 2 or Level 3 qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Specialized bicycles and Turbo e-bike systems.
  • Knowledge of Shimano, SRAM and other major component manufacturers.
  • Experience with electronic groupsets and manufacturer diagnostic software.
  • Familiarity with suspension servicing and setup.
  • Experience working in a busy, professional bicycle workshop.

Training and development opportunities will be available to help further develop your technical knowledge.

Working with us

We believe a successful workshop relies on good communication, teamwork and consistent standards.

We have established workshop procedures covering everything from initial bike assessments and servicing through to quality control and customer handovers. You'll receive a structured induction, with support from our Workshop Leader to help you become familiar with our systems and working practices.

We value people who take ownership of their work, communicate openly, offer great customer service and contribute positively to the team.
