What they need

NOW HIRING: BILINGUAL FLEET SHOP MANAGER

Elite Freightways LLC | Houston, TX

Position: Fleet Shop Manager – Heavy-Duty Trucks & Trailers
Job Type: Full-Time
Language Requirement: Bilingual – English & Spanish

Position Overview

Elite Freightways LLC is seeking an experienced, hands-on Bilingual Fleet Shop Manager to oversee the maintenance, repairs, and daily shop operations of our fleet of approximately 120 company owned heavy-duty trucks and flatbed trailers.

We are a Houston-based trucking company specializing in oilfield transportation, including deliveries to drilling rigs, pipeline projects, and industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive diesel truck maintenance experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage mechanics, control maintenance costs, and keep our trucks safely operating with minimal downtime.

We need a manager who takes ownership of the shop, holds employees accountable, and understands that keeping trucks on the road is critical to our business.

Key Responsibilities

Shop Management & Leadership

  • Oversee all daily maintenance and repair operations for trucks and flatbed trailers.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and manage diesel mechanics and shop personnel.
  • Assign repair jobs and ensure work is completed correctly and efficiently.
  • Establish productivity standards and hold technicians accountable.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatchers, management, and vendors in both English and Spanish.

Fleet Maintenance & Repairs

  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Ensure trucks and trailers receive timely inspections, servicing, and repairs.
  • Diagnose and coordinate repairs involving diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, and emissions systems.
  • Oversee flatbed trailer maintenance, including tires, brakes, wheel ends, suspension, lighting, and structural components.
  • Prioritize repairs to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability.
  • Track recurring mechanical problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate emergency breakdown repairs and roadside assistance.

DOT Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all equipment meets DOT and FMCSA safety requirements.
  • Oversee annual DOT inspections and required maintenance documentation.
  • Ensure all driver-reported defects are addressed and properly documented.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records for trucks and trailers.
  • Identify unsafe equipment and prevent it from being dispatched until repairs are completed.
  • Enforce shop safety policies and proper equipment handling procedures.

Cost Control & Inventory

  • Monitor and control maintenance expenses, parts costs, and outside repair bills.
  • Manage parts inventory and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Negotiate pricing with parts suppliers and outside repair vendors.
  • Track tire usage, repair expenses, and maintenance costs per truck.
  • Review repair invoices and eliminate unnecessary spending.
  • Provide management with regular reports on fleet condition, repair costs, and shop productivity.

Required Qualifications

  • Fluent in English and Spanish – Required.
  • Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty diesel truck maintenance experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of shop supervisory or fleet maintenance management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Class 8 trucks, including Peterbilt and Kenworth.
  • Experience maintaining flatbed trailers and commercial transportation equipment.
  • Working knowledge of DOT inspections and FMCSA maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and make sound repair decisions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and employee management skills.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets, parts inventory, and outside vendors.
  • Comfortable using computers, maintenance tracking software, and electronic repair records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced trucking environment and respond to urgent equipment needs.

What We're Looking For

We want a hands-on, results-driven manager, not someone who simply sits behind a desk.

The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Takes pride in maintaining a safe, dependable fleet.
  • Understands the urgency of getting trucks repaired and back into service.
  • Can lead mechanics while maintaining high workmanship standards.
  • Makes smart decisions that balance repair costs, safety, and equipment reliability.
  • Communicates clearly with drivers and dispatch.
  • Holds employees accountable for performance and productivity.
  • Is proactive about preventing breakdowns instead of constantly reacting to them.
  • Treats company equipment and maintenance expenses as if they were their own.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Full-time management position.
  • Opportunity to lead maintenance operations for a large commercial trucking fleet.
  • Long-term career opportunity with a growing transportation company.
  • Additional benefits discussed during the hiring process.

How to Apply

Qualified candidates should submit a resume outlining their diesel maintenance experience, shop management background, and experience supervising mechanics.
