Duties

• Review and process medical claims using billing software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Assign appropriate diagnosis codes using ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards, along with CPT codes for procedures, to facilitate correct billing submissions.
• Verify insurance coverage, health insurance details, and patient information to prevent claim denials.
• Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims by communicating with insurance companies and patients to resolve outstanding balances.
• Maintain detailed medical records and documentation related to billing activities, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify coding or billing discrepancies and improve overall claims processing efficiency.
• Stay current with updates in medical coding guidelines, healthcare claims management practices, and insurance policies to ensure compliance.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare claims processing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, along with experience using billing software and EMR/EHR systems.
• Familiarity with DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures.
• Excellent customer service skills to effectively communicate with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
• Ability to interpret health insurance policies and explain billing details clearly to diverse audiences.
• Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in coding, documentation, and data entry.
• Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is highly preferred.
