About the role

A master at Sydney Grammar School has energy and enthusiasm for their subject and contributes fully to the co-curricular and pastoral life of the School. A master is accountable to the Headmaster and delegates, through the Deputy Headmaster (Academic) and the Subject Master, for fulfilling the expectations and carrying out the responsibilities set out in this job description.

Key responsibilities

• Teach a full teaching load of 30 periods per cycle in Biology and may be required to teach other subjects as directed and in which qualified
• Attend the School premises on each weekday during school terms for work at a time prescribed by the Headmaster
• Prepare for lessons, create teaching materials, and communicate professionally with colleagues
• Set and mark boys' work, assignments and examinations as required
• Write reports and make required records
• Carry out co-curricular duties as determined by the Headmaster
• Act as a Tutor (pastoral care teacher) for a group of boys as required
• Direct or supervise boys out of class, including in the playground and during School activities
• Take part in School camps, excursions and tours and attend School events after hours
• Maintain accurate attendance records for all classes and attend all departmental, staff and parent meetings

About you

• Accredited Teaching Degree with current NESA Proficient Accreditation
• Relevant qualification in Biology or a related science discipline, such as a Bachelor of Science, with substantial study in Biology
• Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance
• CPR / First Aid Certificate
• Know subject matter thoroughly and teach it well, providing a high-quality educational experience for all pupils
• Show a love of learning and encourage high standards of classroom organisation, management, and practice
• Help boys to gain maturity in their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional lives
• Respect pupils and uphold the principles and practices of the School's Child Protection policies
• Monitor and assess each pupil's progress and liaise actively with Housemasters and Tutors
• Communicate effectively, promptly, and respectfully with pupils, parents, and colleagues

Commencement Date: Immediate start
