Position Overview

The Beverage Manager is a visible, guest-facing leader who brings energy, personality, and creativity to the floor at The Bungalow Kitchen. We are looking for a natural host with strong wine expertise, an innovative approach to beverages, and a genuine ability to connect with guests, inspire the team, and build relationships in the local community. This is a floor-first leadership role—not a behind-the-scenes beverage administration position.

Working closely with the General Manager and culinary team, the Beverage Manager leads the beverage program and bar team while remaining actively engaged on the dining room floor during service. The ideal candidate turns fresh ideas into consistent execution, shares their enthusiasm and knowledge with the team, and balances memorable hospitality with disciplined purchasing, inventory, training, and financial performance.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop bartenders and bar support staff, fostering accountability, professionalism, and pride in the guest experience.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management for the bar team.
  • Train all front-of-house staff on cocktails, wine, beer, spirits, beverage pairings, and service standards.
  • Coach with enthusiasm and lead by example, translating beverage knowledge and new ideas into confident, engaging service across the front-of-house team.
  • Lead from the dining room floor during peak service: welcome guests, guide wine selections, engage tables, support the bar, and set a confident, upbeat pace for the entire team.

Beverage Program & Guest Experience

  • Oversee cocktail, wine, beer, spirits, and nonalcoholic offerings in partnership with restaurant leadership.
  • Own the wine experience, from a balanced, compelling list and by-the-glass program to food pairings, proper service, and regular hands-on team education.
  • Develop creative seasonal cocktails, wine selections, and nonalcoholic offerings that complement the food, reflect The Bungalow Kitchen’s identity, and meet quality and business goals.
  • Maintain recipes, presentation standards, product quality, and consistent execution.
  • Build lasting guest relationships through warm, approachable conversation, thoughtful beverage recommendations, and personalized service that brings guests back.
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally

Community & Guest Engagement

  • Be an active ambassador for The Bungalow Kitchen in Tiburon and the broader Marin community, developing genuine relationships with neighbors, regular guests, and local partners.
  • Partner with the General Manager, marketing, and events teams on wine dinners, winemaker visits, tastings, and thoughtful local collaborations that give guests a reason to return.
  • Listen to guest feedback and community interests, then turn those insights into relevant beverage experiences and welcoming, well-executed events.

Operations & Financial Performance

  • Manage beverage ordering, receiving, storage, inventory, and vendor relationships.
  • Monitor beverage costs, pricing, sales mix, waste, and inventory variances; take action to meet established targets.
  • Maintain accurate recipes, costing, inventory records, and POS beverage information.
  • Oversee bar readiness, cleanliness, equipment care, and opening and closing procedures.
  • Partner with leadership on staffing and labor needs while maintaining service quality.

Communication & Standards

  • Lead beverage education and pre-shift tastings that build team confidence and product knowledge.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen, service team, and events team to deliver a cohesive guest experience.
  • Uphold responsible alcohol service, sanitation, safety, and company standards.
  • Communicate priorities clearly and address performance concerns with consistency and respect

Qualifications

  • Previous beverage or bar management experience in a high-volume, elevated dining environment.
  • Strong practical wine knowledge, including California and key international regions, producers, styles, food pairings, and confident tableside presentation; able to make wine engaging and accessible at every price point.
  • Strong cocktail, spirits, beer, and nonalcoholic beverage knowledge, with the creativity and follow-through to develop and execute distinctive offerings.
  • Experience with inventory, purchasing, recipe costing, and beverage cost management.
  • Proven ability to train teams, lead service, and balance hospitality with business performance.
  • An engaging floor presence, strong interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to energize a team and connect naturally with guests.
  • Experience building repeat-guest relationships, community partnerships, or beverage events; local market familiarity is a plus.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
