Job Title: Blaster

Job purpose: Blasting of industrial machines and steel structures or other work as directed by
Shop Foreman or Management.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Capable of performing all aspects of a blaster, using a blast pot within the blast booth or manual one outside of booth to remove paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt.
• Responsible for shoveling or pouring steel grit or other abrasive material into the machine, and monitoring and maintaining an adequate supply of the abrasive in the hopper.
• Prevents surface damage and strives to continually improve quality and efficiency level.
• Capable of reading and understanding technical documents.
• Knowledge of the different usage of blast media and meeting customer profile specifications.
• Meets company productivity rates, and learn all aspects of job as required.
• Continually demonstrates a productive and non-disruptive work ethic.
• Follows all company safety rules and policies.
• Maintain company equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Take direction from shop foreman or management and be a self-starter when not working under direct supervision.

Mechanical aptitude – the ability to comply with instructions in written, oral, and schedule form is essential. Must be able to read and comprehend manuals, inspection checklists, operating and maintenance instructions, government regulations and other work-related information.

Physical fitness – must be able to hear coworkers, see up close and far away, perceive color and depth, and have the ability to focus. May be required to stand or walk on uneven ground, ascend and descend ladders and scaffolding and work in confined spaces, all of which requires stamina and endurance.

Interpersonal skills – the ability to clearly, professionally, and effectively communicate with management, shop foreman and coworkers.

Employees shall also be required to pass drug tests and certain health requirements for respirator or blast hood use.
