Blood Bank Technician

Key responsibilities

• Blood Collection: Collect blood samples from donors and patients, ensuring proper identification and labeling. This includes performing venipuncture and assisting with donor registration and screening.
• Processing and Testing: Process blood and its components for storage and transfusion. Perform essential tests such as blood typing, antibody screening, and compatibility (cross-matching) to ensure safe transfusions.
• Inventory and Storage: Monitor and manage the inventory of blood and blood products. Ensure blood components are stored under appropriate, controlled conditions to maintain viability.
• Quality Control: Perform routine checks and calibrations on laboratory equipment. Ensure compliance with quality control standards and regulatory requirements.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all activities, including patient information, test results, and inventory management.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols, infection control measures, and all relevant regulatory guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for staff and patients.
• Collaboration: Work closely with medical staff to address patient transfusion needs.

Required qualifications and skills

• Education: A degree in a relevant field like Medical Laboratory Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science is often preferred, such as a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a DMLT/B.Sc. (MLT) certification.
• Certifications: Certification in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or a related field is a plus.
• Experience: Experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in blood banking, is advantageous.
• Skills:
• Phlebotomy and blood collection techniques
• Blood typing and cross-matching
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
• Inventory management
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stakes environment

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹250,000.00 - ₹350,000.00 per year
