About us
The Brain Injured Children Trust (BICT) is a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting children and young people who have sustained brain injuries, along with their families. Our mission is to provide comprehensive care, rehabilitation services, and advocacy to help young people recover, rehabilitate, and reintegrate into their communities. We are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of some of the region's most vulnerable children, and we believe in fostering a culture of compassion, innovation, and excellence in all that we do.
The opportunity
We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join the Board of the Brain Injured Children Trust as Board Members. This is a casual, voluntary position based in Tauranga, Central Bay of Plenty, offering the opportunity to contribute strategically to the governance and direction of our organisation. As a Board Member, you will play an integral role in shaping the future of BICT, ensuring we remain effective, sustainable, and true to our mission of supporting brain-injured children and their families.
What you'll be doing
- Providing strategic governance and oversight of the Trust's operations, finances, and strategic direction
- Attending board meetings regularly and actively participating in discussions and decision-making processes
- Serving on board committees relevant to your expertise (such as finance, fundraising, or clinical services committees)
- Supporting the development and implementation of the Trust's strategic plans and annual objectives
- Ensuring the Trust operates in compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and governance best practices
- Contributing to fundraising and resource development initiatives to support the Trust's sustainability
- Advocating for the Trust and representing its values and mission to the wider community
- Providing expert advice and mentorship drawing on your professional experience and skills
- Supporting the Chief Executive and management team in achieving organisational goals
What we're looking for
- We are very keen to have a lawyer or retired lawyer on our Board
- Demonstrated commitment to the Trust's mission of supporting brain-injured children and their families
- Strong governance experience, ideally with previous board or senior management experience in a charitable, healthcare, or community-based organisation
- Professional expertise in one or more key areas such as finance, human resources, marketing, healthcare, fundraising, or community engagement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to organisational development
- Sound judgement and ethical principles, with a commitment to acting in the best interests of the organisation and the children and families we serve
- The ability to commit time to board responsibilities, including attendance at regular meetings and committee work
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about brain injury in children and the support needs of affected families
- Local knowledge and networks within the Tauranga and Bay of Plenty region would be advantageous
