Para Kore Marae Trust is a kaupapa Māori charitable trust with a vision of Oranga Taiao, Oranga Marae, and Oranga Whānau. Para Kore is grounded in the understanding that the wellbeing of te taiao is interconnected with the wellbeing and rangatiratanga of our marae, whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori Māori.

We provide education and advocacy from a Māori worldview for zero carbon and zero waste. Para Kore supports resilience within Māori communities through mātauranga Māori behaviour change programmes and services.

Our Board is seeking expressions of interest from new Trustees who share this vision and can help guide, strengthen and carry the kaupapa of Para Kore into its next chapter.

Mō te Tūranga me Ōu Haepapa Matua | Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities

We are looking for people who are deeply aligned with the kaupapa of Para Kore and who can bring their passion, whakaaro, experience, relationships and leadership to Para Kore.

You may be an experienced governor, or you may be ready to bring your leadership, or community experience into governance for the first time. We are interested in the contribution you can make, not simply the positions you have previously held.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly valued:

• Mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori – bringing mātauranga, tikanga and a Māori worldview to contemporary challenges and solutions.
• Sustainability and Circular Economy – knowledge of sustainability, climate action, regenerative approaches and circular economy thinking
• Finance and Financial Sustainability – financial governance, budgeting, risk and helping ensure the long-term financial sustainability and resilience of the kaupapa.
• Communications and Advocacy – amplifying stories of climate action, community engagement, public-facing campaigns and policy-level advocacy.
• Funding and Partnerships – strategic relationship-building, funding, philanthropy and partnerships.

Ōu Mātatautanga | Your Key Capabilities

Alongside alignment with our kaupapa and values, we collectively value:

• a commitment to protecting and restoring our relationship to Ranginui rāua ko Papatūānuku for present and future generations;
• sound judgement and the ability to think strategically and contribute constructively to collective decision-making;
• integrity, accountability and a willingness to work towards sustainable solutions;
• an understanding of governance responsibilities, or a willingness to grow your governance capability;
• strong relationships across whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and communities; and relevant professional, kaupapa Māori, community or lived experience; and
• being guided by Te Ao Māori, tikanga, te reo māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Trustee Commitment

• Term: Three years, with the option to renew.
• Meetings: Monthly board meetings held online and kanohi ki te kanohi when possible.
• Time commitment: Approximately 5–8 hours per month, including meeting preparation and participation in subcommittees or kaupapa specific mahi.
• Location: Members may be based anywhere in Aotearoa. Travel support is provided for in-person hui.
