Boiler Operator

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Boiler Operator to operate and monitor the boiler and associated utility systems at our molasses-based distillery. The candidate will be responsible for safe boiler operation, steam generation, fuel efficiency, water quality, routine maintenance and statutory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the boiler safely and efficiently as per standard operating procedures.
• Maintain required steam pressure, temperature and flow according to plant demand.
• Monitor boiler parameters including pressure, temperature, feed-water level, furnace condition and fuel consumption.
• Start, stop and operate boiler equipment safely during normal operation and shutdowns.
• Monitor boiler feed-water quality and coordinate with the water-treatment/DM plant team.
• Check operation of pumps, fans, blowers, valves, economisers and other boiler auxiliaries.
• Carry out regular boiler blowdown as per operational requirements.
• Monitor fuel consumption and take steps to improve boiler efficiency.
• Inspect boiler safety devices, gauges, alarms, interlocks and emergency systems.
• Report abnormal conditions, leakage, vibration, temperature or pressure variations immediately.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical and instrumentation teams for breakdown maintenance.
• Maintain boiler logbooks and daily operational records.
• Ensure adequate availability of fuel, chemicals and consumables required for boiler operations.
• Ensure compliance with boiler safety requirements and statutory inspections.
• Maintain proper housekeeping in the boiler and utility area.
• Follow work-permit, lockout/tagout and PPE requirements.
• Support preventive maintenance and annual boiler shutdown activities.
• Minimise steam losses and improve energy efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

• ITI/Diploma or relevant technical qualification.
• Valid Boiler Attendant/Boiler Operator Certificate, as applicable under statutory requirements.
• 2–5 years of hands-on experience in industrial boiler operations.
• Experience in distillery, sugar, chemical, ethanol or process industries preferred.
• Knowledge of boiler combustion, steam systems, feed-water treatment and boiler safety.
• Basic knowledge of pumps, valves and boiler auxiliaries.
• Ability to work in rotational shifts.
