What they need
Job Overview
Are you the sort of person who loves getting things organised, learning new systems and seeing a job through?
At Libertas Accounting, we help business owners understand their numbers and keep their finances running smoothly. We work with a varied mix of clients, including hospitality, construction and technology businesses.
We’re looking for a capable, curious person to join our small team and help keep client bookkeeping and everyday practice work on track.
As part of a small team your contribution will be visible, your ideas will be heard, and you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills as you take ownership of the role.
What you'll be doing
Working as part of a small collaborative team your work will combine bookkeeping, payroll support and practice administration, including:
- Processing purchase invoices and receipts using Dext and Xero, checking details and following up missing information.
- Completing bank and credit card reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
- Processing employee expenses and keeping supporting records organised.
- Resolving routine supplier and customer account queries.
- Collecting and checking payroll information, maintaining payroll records and assisting with payroll processing.
- Supporting pension administration, including NEST uploads and routine auto-enrolment tasks.
- Assisting with month end bookkeeping, including reconciliations and routine journals under guidance.
- Communicating with clients to obtain information and keep their records complete and up to date.
- Monitoring shared mailboxes and keeping client details, job progress and deadlines updated in our practice management system.
- Helping with client onboarding and coordinating requests for identity checks and other documents.
What matters to us
Your personality and working style are very important to us.
We are looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in accurate work and checks the details.
- Follows tasks through and keeps track of outstanding items.
- Is confident with computers and comfortable learning unfamiliar software.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Asks questions when something doesn’t look right.
- Can organise their workload and flag problems early.
- Enjoys being part of a small team and contributing ideas.
You’ll need some practical bookkeeping experience and an understanding of the basics, including invoices, bank transactions and reconciliations. This could come from an accountancy practice or an accounts role within a business.
Experience with Xero would be particularly useful. We also use Dext, BrightPay, NEST, Engager and Xama, but you do not need to know every system before joining us.
Formal accounting qualifications are welcome, but are not essential if you can demonstrate the relevant skills and approach. An interest in automation and AI tools is welcome too, curiosity and a willingness to learn matter more than specialist knowledge.
What you can expect
- Flexible hours, with the working pattern agreed together.
- Scope for some remote working once you’re confident in the role.
- Training and support with our software and client processes.
- Varied work across different businesses.
- Room to develop your bookkeeping, payroll and practice support skills.
- The opportunity to help shape how we work as the practice develops.
Interested?
Send your CV and a short note, telling us:
- What appeals to you about the role.
- Your relevant bookkeeping or accounts experience.
- Your preferred working days and hours.
- An example of a system you learned or a process you helped improve.
There’s no need for a lengthy covering letter. We’d like to understand how you work and what you could bring to the team.
Applications directly from candidates only, please. No recruitment agencies.
Pay: £14.00-£16.00 per hour
Benefits:
