Join Our Team

Christian Phipps & Co is a growing independent accountancy practice with offices in Bangor and Anglesey. We provide accountancy, taxation and business advisory services to a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses, individuals and charities across North Wales and beyond.

As our practice continues to grow, we are looking to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper to join our friendly and supportive team. We welcome applications from candidates seeking either full-time or part-time hours.

We are seeking an AAT qualified bookkeeper, or someone who is qualified by experience with an equivalent level of expertise gained within an accountancy practice or a commercial environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to become a key member of our team, supporting a varied client base and building long-term client relationships. The role offers a mix of office-based work and visits to client premises, helping businesses maintain accurate financial records and make the most of cloud accounting software.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the bookkeeping requirements for a varied portfolio of clients.
  • Processing sales and purchase invoices.
  • Carrying out bank and control account reconciliations.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
  • Supporting clients with Making Tax Digital requirements.
  • Advising and supporting clients with cloud accounting software, including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent.
  • Setting up and maintaining bookkeeping systems.
  • Visiting client premises to carry out bookkeeping work and provide on-site support where required.
  • Training clients on bookkeeping processes and accounting software.
  • Liaising with HMRC and clients where appropriate.
  • Assisting with year-end accounts preparation by maintaining accurate accounting records.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve clients' bookkeeping systems and processes.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • AAT qualification, or be qualified by experience with a strong bookkeeping background.
  • Experience using cloud accounting software, including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent.
  • Experience preparing VAT returns and supporting Making Tax Digital.
  • Excellent bookkeeping and reconciliation skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, with the flexibility to travel to client premises across North Wales.

Experience using TaxCalc would be an advantage, although it is not essential.

What We Offer

  • Full-time or part-time opportunities.
  • 34-hour full-time working week.
  • Competitive salary, depending on experience.
  • 24 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time employees).
  • An additional day off for your birthday.
  • Payment of annual AAT professional subscriptions (where applicable).
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Subsidised parking.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Ongoing professional development and training.
  • Regular team social events.
  • A supportive, collaborative and friendly working environment.
  • The opportunity to play a key role within a growing independent practice.

At Christian Phipps & Co, we pride ourselves on building long-term relationships with our clients and fostering a supportive, collaborative working environment where everyone has the opportunity to develop and contribute.

If you're looking to join a progressive, client-focused practice where your bookkeeping skills are recognised and you can make a real difference to both clients and colleagues, we'd love to hear from you.
