Bookkeeper

Job Summary
One Horse is a family-owned, veteran-owned firearms manufacturer in Brownstown, Indiana. We opened in 2025 and we're still very much a startup. We build AR-platform rifles, pistols, and titanium suppressors with 100% US-made parts, and we sell direct to consumers, through dealers and distributors, and on OEM contracts. Things move fast here and not every process is written down yet, so we need a bookkeeper who can keep our records accurate while helping us build the systems as we go. You'll work closely with leadership and see exactly how your work affects the business.

Responsibilities

• Record and post journal entries in QuickBooks Online following GAAP and double-entry principles
• Run accounts payable: enter vendor bills, match them to POs, and prepare payment runs for approval
• Run accounts receivable: invoice dealers, distributors, and OEM customers, apply payments, and follow up on past-due balances
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and general ledger accounts every month
• Prepare monthly financial reports, including the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and AR/AP aging
• Work with our Avalara sales tax setup and keep dealer resale exemption certificates current
• Help keep inventory and parts costs accurate as production scales
• Support payroll processing and keep payroll records in order
• Dig into discrepancies when the numbers don't tie out and get them fixed
• Handle vendor setup, W-9s, and 1099 prep, and keep records organized for our CPA
• Help set up and improve our accounting processes as we grow

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role
• Strong QuickBooks Online skills
• Solid understanding of GAAP and double-entry bookkeeping
• Experience with payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger work
• Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets
• Manufacturing, inventory, or wholesale experience is a big plus
• Familiarity with multi-state sales tax, Avalara, or WooCommerce order data is a plus
• Stays calm when things get busy and priorities shift on short notice
• Takes ownership, doesn't wait to be told, and is willing to jump in on whatever needs doing
• Comfortable working without a big corporate structure around you
• Must be able to pass a background check and legally work in a federally licensed firearms facility
