Bookstore Manager

Visible Voice Books is a brick-and-mortar independent bookstore with an emphasis on fiction, modern poetry, art, music, film, counter culture, and current events.

The store moved into its completely renovated 6,000 sq. ft. location on Lorain Avenue in Ohio City approximately one year ago. The new location has allowed VVB to triple its book inventory of new, used, and antiquarian books, exceeding 40,000 titles. In addition, VVB added a fully functional café and 200-seat capacity performance space to its space. The first year in their new location has been a great success but there is more to be done: the train is still rolling!

In the role of Bookstore Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Managing bookstore staff and leveraging technology to build strong process management procedures
• Ensuring all processes and bookstore responsibilities and tasks are being completed, adhered to and changed/tightened up as needed
• Inventory/POS management, including ordering books and processing/pricing used books (being tech literate is a must to learn and manage multiple inventory management systems)
• Stocking/shelving
• Creating displays
• Coordinating in-store events (both book/author events and various other events)
• Staying up-to-date on book industry news/current releases
• Bookkeeping (including keeping track of expenses, running monthly revenue, and expense reports)
• Strategic planning of business with ownership and café manager

VVB is looking for someone smart and creative who wants to collaborate with the bookstore's ownership and staff to drive success. Customer service skills, an eye for detail, and an interest in books are very important. Experience with digital marketing and IT technology is also a plus.

Qualifications:

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Curiosity to find problems before they become problems and the initiative to drive solutions
• Strong process management skills; disciplined regarding the design of intuitive process management that is adhered to and followed through with
• A team player who has the willingness to be flexible, triage problems, wear more than one hat, and chip in where needed
• A willingness to learn all of VVB's book business segments
• Retail experience (bookstore experience a plus but certainly not required)
• A passion for books and literature, as well as a wide knowledge of various authors and genres
• Self-motivated, conscientious , collaborative skill set
• Willingness to engage in marketing activities
• Able to work some evenings and weekends
• A sense of humor and flexibility goes a long way in this position!

Salary commensurate with experience.
