What they need
Branch Manager, New Plymouth
New Zealand Couriers is one of the country's established freight and courier networks, part of the Freightways Group. The New Plymouth branch is looking for a Branch Manager to take ownership of the local business, from customer relationships and revenue growth through to the people and contractors who keep freight moving on time.
This is a genuinely end to end role. You will be responsible for the branch's financial performance, its people and the local courier network.
The Role
The role covers the full spread of running a branch, from customer relationships through to network coordination, day to day operations and people leadership, all reporting to the Lower North Island Regional Manager. In this role, you will:
- Set and drive the branch's strategy to meet revenue and profit targets
- Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers.
- Manage and expand the local courier network, working closely with contractors
- Ensure the branch meets national standards and KPIs across the business
- Recruit, develop and manage branch staff, and oversee contractor performance
- Maintain health and safety compliance across all branch operations
What We're Looking For
You will have led a business unit, branch or team with full accountability for its financial performance, not just contributed to one. You are comfortable managing both employees and contractors, and confident setting direction rather than waiting for it.
A background in freight, transport, logistics or distribution will help you get up to speed quickly, though what matters most is experience running a customer facing operation where you owned both the numbers and the people.
You will need sound commercial judgement, the discipline to manage day to day operations without losing sight of strategy, and the ability to build genuine relationships with customers, staff and contractors alike.
Why This Is Worth Considering
Based in sunny New Plymouth, this role suits someone who leads through people. The branch relies on how well you build and support your team, staff and contractors alike, not just how the numbers read. Recruiting well, developing people and getting the best out of a mixed team is a genuine part of the job, not something that happens on the side.
If you enjoy building a team people want to work for, and getting a contractor network working well together, the New Plymouth branch gives you room to do that. It's your own patch and your own people, with the backing of a national network behind you.
