Overview
About the Role
Control AV, LLC is a design-build systems integrator serving the cruise industry, delivering entertainment, broadcast, and communications systems for both shipyards and vessel owners across newbuild construction and refit/drydock projects.
We are seeking an experienced Broadcast Engineer to lead the design and commissioning of shipboard broadcast systems, spanning both the headend/distribution infrastructure that delivers content to guest and crew spaces, and the onboard production and studio systems used for live events, local origination content, and in-house programming.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering design, shipyard project execution, and hands-on systems commissioning — working internal, shipyard, and owner's technical teams to deliver broadcast systems from concept through vessel delivery.
Responsibilities:
Distribution & Headend Engineering
- Develop and review broadcast system designs, including headend architecture, IPTV distribution, satellite reception (TVRO), and RF/fiber backbone infrastructure
- Produce and review technical drawings, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment specifications in coordination with internal, owner, and shipyard engineering teams
- Specify headend equipment (encoders, multiplexers, IRDs, modulators) and integrate with shipwide entertainment systems and digital signage platforms
- Support design reviews with shipyards, owner representatives, and classification societies
Live Production & Studio Systems
- Design and support master control / production control room infrastructure, including production switchers (vision mixers), SDI/IP video routing, and multiviewer systems
- Specify and integrate studio and live-event camera systems (studio and PTZ cameras, camera control units) used for onboard productions — game shows, port talks, sports viewing, and other live programming
- Integrate production audio and intercom/talkback systems, distinct from general shipboard PA
Newbuild Project Support
- Support broadcast system design and equipment procurement through the full newbuild construction cycle, from contract design through vessel delivery
- Liaise with shipyard trades and subcontractors to ensure correct installation of cabling, headend equipment, and distribution hardware
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) onboard
Refit & Retrofit Support
- Plan and execute broadcast system upgrades and replacements during drydock and refit periods, often on compressed timelines
- Coordinate system cutovers and integration with legacy shipboard infrastructure
Testing, Commissioning & Sea Trials
- Commission broadcast and TV distribution systems and verify system performance against design specification
- Troubleshoot RF, IP, and satellite signal issues during commissioning and post-delivery warranty support
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Broadcast Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3+ years of broadcast engineering experience — satellite broadcast, IPTV headend, or similar RF/IP video distribution environments
- Working knowledge of DVB standards, MPEG encoding/multiplexing, and RF/IP signal distribution
- Familiarity with satellite communications systems (VSAT/TVRO)
- Ability to read and produce technical/electrical drawings and cable schedules
- Experience with production switchers/vision mixers, video routing (SDI and/or IP-based, e.g., NDI), and multiviewer systems
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in live, time-constrained environments
- Willingness to travel internationally (frequently 10-25%+), valid passport or ability to obtain a passport as a condition of employment.
- This is a paid position offering competitive compensation. If you are passionate about audio visual technology and possess the required qualifications, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- 401(k)
- Dental insurance
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Vision insurance
