You will be responsible for the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of broadcast technology, from traditional baseband video systems to modern IT-based networking environments.

What We Offer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Live Broadcast Support: Provide technical support during live news programming and studio productions, ensuring all audio, video, and transmission equipment operates seamlessly.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and component-level repair on broadcast equipment, including studio cameras, production switchers, audio consoles, graphics systems, and routing switchers.
  • IT & Network Administration: Support the integration and maintenance of IP-based broadcast systems, networked storage, and digital asset management systems.
  • Remote & Field Operations: Assist with the setup, testing, and technical operation of ENG (Electronic News Gathering) and cellular bonded backpack solutions (e.g., Dejero) for field reporters.
  • System Integration: Assist the Engineering team with equipment upgrades, cabling, and new technology installations within the studio and master control room.
  • Troubleshooting: Respond swiftly to technical emergencies and on-air discrepancies, implementing effective workarounds to minimize downtime.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Degree or Diploma in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of technical experience in a live television broadcast or production environment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of HD/SDI video systems and audio routing.
    • Familiarity with modern broadcast IT networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, switches) and emerging IP broadcast standards (NDI/Dante).
    • Knowledge of satellite downlink systems is an asset.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and the capacity to remain calm and focused in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.
  • Flexibility: Television is a 24/7 business. Must be willing and available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the news cycle.
  • Mobility: A valid Ontario Driver’s License in good standing is required.
