Broadcast Technician

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer/Director of Engineering, assist with technology and technical support of Pioneer PBS, including the technical quality of all material leaving the station via transmission, stream, or file. Maintain technical equipment and assist with compliance regarding current FCC, FAA, State, Federal or Grant regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Under direction of CTO, install computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications within the company, whether desktop tools or system infrastructure.

* Routine maintenance of hardware and software, such as planning for and performing software upgrades and file backups on the network.

* Troubleshooting of computer, network and media/broadcast issues that arise and communicate potential solutions with CTO before implementing.

* Maintain an up-to-date asset inventory.

* Provide clear information on maintenance needs and expenses related to fixes to CTO for approval.

* Must be able to help determine potential solutions to complex problems and situations and present researched potential costs for potential solutions.

* Take details from computer users through phone, email, virtually or in person and present potential solutions to CTO.

* Assist engineering team in various large scale projects.

* Communicate status updates with CTO regularly.

* Maintain a neat, clean, safe and organized workplace.

* Maintain records of transmitter and STL location quarterly inspections and equipment usage.

* Respond to emergency signal issues promptly to minimize disruption.

* Under direction of CTO adjust broadcast frequencies to achieve the best signal transmissions.

* Test and align audio and video signals for synchronization.

* Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and broadcasting standards.

* Exhibit a strong commitment to the mission and goals of Pioneer PBS.

* Other duties as assigned and within realm of job.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

* Experience with digital broadcast systems and technology

* Proficiency in using broadcasting software and diagnostic tools

* Strong understanding of audio/visual signal flow and troubleshooting

* Knowledge of FCC rules and broadcasting regulations

* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

* Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and with priorities set by a Director of Engineering

* Familiarity with IP-based broadcasting technologies

* Proficiency in using broadcast equipment and tools

* Understanding of audio and video signal transmission

* Ability to troubleshoot and repair technical issues quickly

* Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations

* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

* Physical stamina to handle equipment setup and maintenance

* Ability to operate test equipment, interpret results, and collaborate on corrective actions.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

* Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, or related field.

* Technical certifications related to broadcasting or electronics

* Proven experience working in broadcasting or a similar technical field

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
