What they need

Brownfield Redevelopment Project Manager

Location: Michigan

Employment Type: Full Time

For over 70 years Fishbeck has been building. As a 100% employee-owned firm, every team member has a stake in what we build together—our work, our reputation, and our future. Now we need to add a Brownfield Redevelopment Project Manager to help us keep building.

Working with our environmental team, you will lead Brownfield Redevelopment projects supported by private investment, EGLE grants and loans, USEPA grants, and other programs. You will also manage long-term contracts and relationships with established developers, municipalities, and organizations experienced in Brownfield Redevelopment tools. Public speaking and stakeholder engagement are required.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage Brownfield Redevelopment projects from inception through completion, including projects that typically span 6–24 months.
  • Lead technical work involving site characterization, risk assessment, redevelopment environmental planning, and environmental compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with clients, Fishbeck departments, technical experts, developers, municipalities, and partner organizations to develop and execute collaborative project plans.
  • Develop Health and Safety Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Response Activity Plans, and other required project documentation.
  • Conduct site assessments, characterize environmental conditions, and evaluate exposure pathways to support liability protection.
  • Prepare and submit Due Care Compliance Documents, Inspection, Maintenance and Monitoring Plans, Act 381 work plans, and Brownfield grant and loan work plans.
  • Ensure compliance with EGLE and USEPA Brownfield Redevelopment program requirements, including site eligibility, data quality objectives, and quality assurance/quality control protocols.
  • Develop conceptual plans, construction schedules, and cost estimates for site development and risk-mitigation activities.
  • Oversee vapor mitigation, soil caps and barriers, stormwater treatment and infiltration, underground storage tank removals, soil management, dewatering, and related site-development activities.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, scopes, quality control, proposals, and invoicing.
  • Provide clear, regular updates to clients, team members, and stakeholders; address issues promptly; and support public speaking and community engagement activities.
  • Stay current on applicable regulations, industry standards, and best practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, or a related field; applicable experience may substitute for the educational requirement.
  • Certified Professional Geologist, Professional Engineer, or a related professional certification is a plus.
  • Experience working on environmental projects, including at least two years overseeing and managing technical work; Brownfield Redevelopment experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Due Care Obligations under the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act and USEPA Continuing Obligations.
  • Expertise in site characterization, exposure-pathway evaluation, and representative sampling strategies, including statistical and incremental methods.
  • Ability to prepare Health and Safety Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Response Activity Plans, Due Care Compliance Documents, Inspection, Maintenance and Monitoring Plans, Act 381 work plans, and Brownfield grant and loan work plans.
  • Ability to work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor fieldwork that may involve long hours, strenuous conditions, moderate lifting and carrying, uneven terrain, construction or drilling sites, and driving to project sites. Reasonable accommodation may be available for qualified individuals who request it.

What We Offer

Our staff members enjoy a comprehensive compensation package that includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Wellness reimbursement and activities
  • Reimbursement and support for tuition, continuing education, and professional/personal development
  • Vacation and sick time, volunteer PTO, parental leave, and paid holidays
  • Opportunities for hybrid and flexible schedules
  • 401(k), profit sharing, and stock ownership opportunities (employee ownership)
  • And more!
