We’re looking for a Part-Time Budtender to join The Hempire team.

For us, being a good budtender isn’t about knowing every strain on the shelf. It’s about being approachable, listening to customers, asking the right questions, and helping people feel confident about what they’re buying.

The Hempire is a locally owned cannabis shop in downtown St. Catharines, and a big part of our business is built around our regular customers, knowledgeable service, and the relationships we create with the community.

Some customers know exactly what they want. Others have a lot of questions. We want someone who is happy helping both.

What You’ll Do

• Welcome customers and create a friendly, comfortable experience.
• Listen to what customers are looking for before making recommendations.
• Learn our menu and stay up to date on new products and brands.
• Help customers understand flower, pre-rolls, infused products, vapes, concentrates, edibles, beverages, cannabinoids, terpenes, and potency.
• Provide responsible product recommendations.
• Verify ID and follow all Ontario cannabis retail requirements.
• Process transactions accurately through the POS.
• Help with pickup and online orders, inventory, receiving, restocking, and merchandising.
• Keep the store clean, organized, and welcoming.
• Treat every customer with patience and respect, even during busy shifts.

Who We’re Looking For

We care a lot about personality.

You don’t need to know everything about cannabis on day one. Product knowledge can be taught. Being someone who genuinely enjoys helping people is much more important.

You’ll fit in well if you:

• Are friendly, confident, and easy to talk to.
• Actually listen instead of trying to immediately sell something.
• Enjoy learning about cannabis and new products.
• Can explain things without making customers feel uncomfortable or inexperienced.
• Are patient with customers who have questions.
• Take pride in remembering regular customers and building relationships.
• Stay calm and respectful in difficult situations.
• Are reliable, punctual, and work well with a team.
• Are comfortable saying, “I’m not sure, but let me find out for you.”

We would rather give a customer the right information than pretend to know everything.

Cannabis Knowledge

Previous cannabis retail experience is an asset, but it isn’t required.

Knowledge of THC, CBD, terpenes, flower, pre-rolls, infused products, concentrates, vapes, edibles, and licensed producers is helpful.

More importantly, you should be curious and willing to keep learning. Our menu is always changing, and good budtenders stay interested.

Requirements

• Must be 19 years of age or older.
• Must complete required CannSell training before your first scheduled shift.
• Must meet applicable cannabis retail employment requirements.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Comfortable using a POS system and handling cash.
• Reliable and available for part-time shifts.
• Evening, weekend availability is a must.
• Holiday availability is an asset.

About The Hempire

The Hempire is a locally owned cannabis shop in downtown St. Catharines carrying a wide and constantly changing selection of cannabis products.

But products are only part of the experience.

We want customers to feel comfortable asking questions, regulars to feel recognized, and first-time customers to receive the same level of attention as someone who has been shopping with us for years.

That comes down to the people behind the counter.

We’re looking for someone who cares about the customer experience, not someone who just wants to ring through transactions.
