Build Technician – Electromechanical Assembly

Location: Fremont, CA
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, onsite
Pay: $28–$35/hour, depending on experience
Employment Type: W-2, hourly

About Componentry

Componentry helps hardware companies manage sourcing, manufacturing, and production execution. We work with customers from early builds through ongoing production, coordinating materials, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal assembly.

We are expanding our in-house production capability in Fremont and are looking for a hands-on Build Technician to help run electromechanical assembly work.

The Role

This is a hands-on production role building mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies from documented work instructions.

The work includes mechanical assembly, soldering, torque-controlled fastening, adhesives, conformal coating, inspection, and use of fixtures and hand tools.

We are a small team, so this is not a role where someone will constantly stand over your shoulder checking every step. We are looking for someone dependable who can follow a process carefully, maintain quality while working independently, and speak up immediately when something does not look right.

What You’ll Do

  • Build mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies according to work instructions, drawings, and production travelers
  • Perform hand soldering of wires to PCBAs and inspect solder joints for proper connection
  • Cut, strip, clean, and prepare wires and components for assembly
  • Assemble small mechanical components, bearings, motors, PCBAs, and hardware using hand tools and production fixtures
  • Apply threadlocker and other adhesives according to documented requirements
  • Use torque-controlled screwdrivers and follow specified torque requirements
  • Apply manual/aerosol conformal coating, including masking, coating, drying, and handling assemblies according to the documented process and required PPE
  • Perform visual inspections, tug tests, dimensional/fixture checks, and other basic quality checks throughout the build process
  • Maintain accurate production paperwork and clearly document completed work
  • Keep the work area, tools, customer-owned material, and work-in-process organized
  • Immediately flag shortages, damaged material, unclear instructions, quality issues, or anything that does not match the expected build
  • Help improve work instructions, workstation layout, and assembly processes as we learn and scale production

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong attention to detail and consistent workmanship
  • Dependable, accountable, and comfortable working independently
  • Good mechanical aptitude and confidence using hand tools
  • Ability to follow detailed written and visual work instructions exactly
  • Good manual dexterity and comfort working with small components
  • Comfortable performing repetitive production work without letting quality slip
  • Willingness to stop and ask questions when something looks wrong rather than guessing or pushing questionable work through
  • Ability to keep a clean and organized production area
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where processes may continue to improve and change

Helpful Experience

Previous experience with electromechanical assembly, electronics manufacturing, hand soldering, PCBA work, torque-controlled assembly, conformal coating, manufacturing documentation, or quality inspection is helpful.

IPC/J-STD soldering certification is a plus, but not required. We care more about whether you can learn the process, produce good work consistently, and be trusted to own your workstation.

What Success Looks Like

You can be given a production plan, complete kits, work instructions, and the required tooling and reliably execute the build without constant supervision.

You maintain quality as volume increases, keep material and tools organized, communicate problems early, and take ownership of completing the scheduled work correctly and on time.

Pay: $28.00 - $36.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week

Work Location: In person
