We are recruiting for two full time Building Control Inspectors.

About the Role

As a Building Inspector, you will play a key role in delivering the Council's Building Control service and supporting the implementation of the Building Safety Regime.

You will manage your own caseload, exercise professional judgement and work across a varied range of developments throughout the borough, while benefiting from the support of an experienced and collaborative team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a professional lead on Building Regulations, Building Act and Building Safety Act matters.
  • Managing plan checking and site inspection caseloads.
  • Taking enforcement action where necessary to secure compliance.
  • Investigating dangerous structures and overseeing demolition controls.
  • Maintaining accurate site records and application information.
  • Supporting colleagues and sharing professional best practice.
  • Preparing reports and delivering work programmes to agreed targets.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Council and maintaining compliance with BICoF and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
  • Providing specialist support to the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Deputising for the Building Control Technical Manager where appropriate.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Building Control professional who enjoys applying their expertise to achieve positive outcomes.

You will have:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CABE or RICS.
  • Registration with the Building Safety Regulator as a Building Inspector (minimum Class 2D).
  • A commitment to progressing your registration and professional competence.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Experience of plan checking, site inspections and enforcement activity.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach.
  • Experience using Building Control systems and digital technologies.
  • A full driving licence and access to transport.

What's in it for You?

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary.
  • Significant market-rate supplement in addition to salary, reviewed annually to remain aligned with market conditions.
  • Flexible and hybrid working opportunities.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Generous annual leave package.
  • Support for CPD and competency development.
  • Support to progress to higher Building Safety Regulator registration classes.
  • Varied and rewarding caseload.
  • Supportive team culture focused on professional development and service excellence.

If you're looking for your next challenge in Building Control and want to help shape the future of our service, we'd love to hear from you.
