Building Envelope Specialist

d2d Green Architecture is looking for a ‘Building Envelope Specialist’ for our growing architectural and sustainability studio to support the delivery of high-performance, durable, and energy-efficient buildings. We are a growing Minority and Women owned firm with focus on high-performance building design.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of building enclosure systems, air weather barriers, thermal envelope, and experience with building envelope assessment, design review, field observation, testing, and envelope commissioning. Strong understanding of building enclosure principles, materials, and construction practices. Work closely with architects, engineers, sustainability team members, contractors, owners, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle—from design through construction and closeout. Research on codes, zoning, resiliency and high-performance building requirements including but not limited to applicable Local laws. Review design documents, including drawings, specifications as well as review of submittals and RFIs during construction for high-performance projects. Evaluate enclosure systems including roofing, waterproofing, fenestration, curtain wall, masonry, cladding, air barriers, vapor control, and thermal insulation. Ability to interpret architectural details and identify potential enclosure performance issues. Perform field observations to verify installation quality and compliance with project requirements. Develop and coordinate field testing, including water penetration, air leakage, and other enclosure performance testing. Identify deficiencies and provide clear recommendations for corrective action. Prepare field observation reports, testing documentation, and project closeout documentation. Support quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) throughout design and construction. Possibly assist with sustainability projects, project proposals and business development tasks.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Science, Construction Management, or a related field.

General Skills: Must be proactive, be able to work independently; have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work on multiple projects at the same time.

Experience: Technical experience in building construction, building codes, detailing thermal enclosure and building envelope, in-depth understanding of building and energy codes is required. Minimum of 7 Years’ experience in building enclosure.

Software skills needed: Must be Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam/ Adobe acrobat, and Microsoft office suite.

Preferred: Architectural Registration/License, LEED/WELL AP/PHIUS, BECxP, Registered Building Enclosure Consultant (RBEC from IIBEC), Experience with ASHRAE Guideline 0, ASTM standards, NFPA requirements. Experience in ACC Build, Knowledge of Therm, WUFI or other thermal analysis tools. and/or other AI tools.

Pay: $43.26 - $67.30 per hour
