What they need

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Building Systems Inspector to join our team based on Auckland's North Shore.

This is a hands-on specialised technical role within the building and fire protection industry, combining technical inspection and testing, problem solving, customer interaction and reporting.

The role will suit someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, identifying problems, working through technical requirements and making sound decisions. You may come from an engineering, technical, trade, construction, maintenance or other practical background.

The position is primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional night work required to meet customer or site requirements.

While the role is primarily based on the North Shore, some travel is required, with approximately 15 to 25 days of out-of-town work per year, spread throughout the year.

Previous building inspection or fire protection experience is not required. Full training will be provided, including the technical standards, inspection procedures and specialised knowledge required for the role.

The role would suit someone who has established themselves in another trade, technical, operational or practical career and is now looking for a new challenge and a long-term career path.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test building systems in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  • Carry out field inspections at commercial, industrial and other building sites.
  • Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate records using company computer systems.
  • Liaise professionally with customers and site representatives.
  • Coordinate and supervise a small work team when required.
  • Follow established processes and safety procedures.
  • Identify issues and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.

About You

You may currently be working as an engineer, technician, tradesperson, supervisor, site manager or in another technical or practical role.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of 10 years' work experience.
  • Be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
  • Possess excellent communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Demonstrate strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Have the confidence and interpersonal skills to eventually supervise and support a small team.
  • Remain calm and effective when working under pressure and be able to follow procedures.
  • Be reliable, dependable, and committed to high-quality work.

Have good computer skills and be confident using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and the Internet in their day-to-day work.

  • Hold a current full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Have the legal right to work in New Zealand on a permanent basis.
  • Be willing and able to undergo pre-employment, routine, and random drug testing.
  • Be flexible to occasionally work outside normal business hours when required.

What We Offer

  • Full on-the-job training.
  • Good remuneration package.
  • A supportive and friendly team environment.
  • A varied and rewarding role combining field work, customer interaction, and technical responsibilities.
  • The opportunity to develop a specialised technical career.
  • Increasing responsibility as your knowledge and experience develop.
  • An excellent workplace culture where people are valued, supported, and enjoy coming to work.
  • The opportunity to join a well-established, family-owned business with a strong reputation and more than 20 years of successful operation.

A Career Change with a Difference

If you have developed your skills in engineering, trades, construction, maintenance, technical services or another practical profession and are looking for something different, this could be an opportunity to build a new specialised career without starting again from scratch.

Your existing experience, judgement, technical ability and work ethic will provide the foundation. We will provide the specialised industry knowledge and training.

Apply Now

This role would suit someone looking for a career change and the opportunity to learn a specialised profession. We are looking for a person with the right attitude, work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Applicants must have New Zealand Residency. As safety is a key priority in our business, successful applicants will be required to pass pre-employment drug screening and participate in our ongoing routine and random drug testing program.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
