Bulldozer Operator

Key Responsibilities

• Operate bulldozers safely and efficiently in accordance with operating procedures and manufacturer specifications.
• Perform earthmoving, grading, levelling, excavation, backfilling, spreading, pushing, and clearing activities as required.
• Prepare and maintain work areas, including clearing vegetation, debris, soil, and other materials.
• Position and manoeuvre the bulldozer accurately to achieve required grades, levels, slopes, and site specifications.
• Conduct pre-start and post-operation inspections of the bulldozer and report any defects, faults, leaks, or unusual noises immediately.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify signs of mechanical or operational problems.
• Carry out basic operator-level maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, checking fluid levels, and other routine checks.
• Ensure the bulldozer is kept clean, secure, and in good operating condition.
• Follow site plans, instructions, drawings, and directions from supervisors when carrying out assigned tasks.
• Work closely with surveyors, site supervisors, equipment operators, mechanics, and other site personnel to complete assigned activities.
• Maintain safe operating distances from personnel, vehicles, structures, excavations, overhead lines, and other hazards.
• Observe all company Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) policies and site-specific safety procedures.
• Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Complete daily equipment inspection checklists, operating logs, fuel records, work-hour records, and other required documentation.
• Record equipment defects, maintenance requirements, operating hours, fuel usage, and work activities accurately.
• Report accidents, near misses, equipment damage, unsafe conditions, and other incidents promptly.
• Ensure proper shutdown and parking of the bulldozer at the end of each shift or when not in use.
• Assist mechanics and maintenance personnel during servicing, repairs, and troubleshooting when required.
• Ensure attachments, blades, tracks, and other components are used appropriately and safely.
• Comply with site traffic management plans and designated equipment routes.
• Minimise unnecessary idling, fuel consumption, equipment wear, and environmental impact.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings, training, and competency assessments.
• Perform other duties related to heavy equipment operation as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum of Secondary School Certificate (SSCE/WAEC/NECO) or equivalent.
• Valid Grader/Motor Grader Operator certification or recognized heavy equipment operator qualification.
• Valid driver's licence where required by applicable regulations.
• Relevant operator's licence/certification as required for the project or site.
• Minimum of 2–3 years' experience operating motor graders, preferably in construction, roadworks, civil engineering, mining, or oil & gas environments.
• Good knowledge of grader operations, controls, attachments, and basic equipment maintenance.
• Ability to read and understand basic site instructions, equipment manuals, and work specifications.
• Knowledge of basic health, safety, and environmental requirements.
