We’re partnered with a leading digital consultancy supporting a Prison Safety team across the prison estate. The aim is to give staff a clearer, joined-up way to manage their work and to make sure the right information reaches the right people in time to identify vulnerability and risk in prisoners.
The engagement builds on a previous agency’s discovery, filling the gaps and broadening the scope ahead of alpha, which is pencilled in for January. There’s a real emphasis on looking beyond digital, so you’ll be exploring process, policy, operations and the physical environment as well as technology. You’ll be working within a multidisciplinary team alongside Service Design, User Research and Technical Architecture.
The consultancy is looking for an experienced contract Business Analyst with a technical background to play a key role in shaping what comes next.
What you’ll be working on:
- Task management: understanding the types of tasks across the prison estate, which most urgently need support, and how to move to a shared, standardised approach that helps teams see their work, manage capacity and avoid bottlenecks.
- Information needs and gaps: what information is needed to identify vulnerability and risk, what’s missing, incomplete or arriving too late, and what that means for decision-making.
- Information flows: how information moves between people, teams, organisations and systems, and where the gaps and barriers sit.
- Operational processes and dependencies: mapping how things work today, including business rules, handovers, responsibilities and constraints.
- Opportunities and implications: identifying what needs to change, what sits within digital control, and what needs wider policy, operational or technical input.
Requirements:
- Experienced Business Analyst with a technical background.
- Confident translating user needs into technical features and requirements.
- Comfortable working within UCD ways of working alongside Service Designers, User Researchers and Technical Architects.
- Experience of discovery work, ideally in Government / Public Sector.
- Able to look beyond digital, mapping processes, policy and operational dependencies.
- Justice, prison or other complex public service experience is highly beneficial.
- Available to start within 2 weeks and travel to London once a month for team days.
