What they need
C&C Marine and Repair is a family-owned shipyard in Belle Chasse, just south of New Orleans. We build steel barges, towboats, and aluminum vessels, and handle repair and drydock work for operators across the Gulf Coast and inland rivers.
We’re hiring someone to sell the vessels we build and lease out barges from our fleet. This is a field job. You’ll spend about half your time on the road visiting customers and working events, and much of the rest on the phone. No sales or marine experience required.
What you’ll do
- Sell new barges, towboats, and aluminum vessels, including boats we build on spec.
- Lease barges from our fleet and stay on top of renewals.
- Build your own list of operators and decision makers
- Visit customers in person on a regular schedule
- Bring prospects to the yard to see vessels under construction.
- Attend trade shows and industry events, including the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, and come back with meetings on the calendar.
- Work with our engineering and production teams to put together quotes, and keep buyers updated from contract to delivery.
- Track every lead, quote, and lease, and report your pipeline weekly.
What you need
- Willingness to travel about 50% of the time, including overnight trips and trade shows.
- Comfort cold calling people you don’t know, entertaining customers
- Discipline to keep several deals moving at once
- Solid Excel skills and clear writing for emails and proposals.
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to walk a working shipyard and board vessels and barges in PPE and Louisiana heat.
Nice to have
- A bachelor’s degree. Business, maritime, and engineering majors fit best, but any major can work.
- Time around boats, the river, or the oil patch, through work, family, or growing up.
- An internship or job in sales, customer service, or the trades.
- A maritime academy, Coast Guard, or Navy background.
How you’ll start
Your first months are for learning: time in the yard with our production and engineering teams to see how barges and towboats go together, and customer visits and trade shows alongside ownership. You’ll take on barge leasing first, where deals close faster, then move into vessel sales as you learn the product.
Pay
- Base salary: $55,000 to $65,000, depending on background
- Perks such as: free travel, food, company transportation, and flexible schedules
Benefits
Medical with 100% of the employee premium paid by C&C. Dental. Company-paid life and disability insurance. 401(k) with company match. Two weeks of paid vacation plus paid holidays. Travel expenses covered.
