What they need

Early-Career Growth Opportunity | BC-Based | Travel Across British Columbia and Western Canada

Help First Nations protect their territories, strengthen emergency preparedness, and build sovereign records of their lands.

We're BackRoadIntel, a Canadian technology company building a new kind of Territory Intelligence Platform for First Nations.

Our mission is to help First Nations independently document, monitor and understand what's happening across their territories, creating trusted, Nation-controlled records that support emergency management, environmental stewardship, infrastructure planning and negotiations with governments and industry.

We're looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial associate or recent graduate who wants to help bring this technology to First Nations communities across British Columbia and, ultimately, Canada.

This isn't a typical entry-level sales job.

It's a mission to help protect Indigenous people and territory. It's an opportunity to get involved with an early-stage technology company, work directly with its founders, help build a national business, and make a meaningful difference along the way.

What we're building

BackRoadIntel combines field-based sensors, video, mapping and AI to help communities develop their own ongoing records of their territories.

see: https://business.backroadintel.com/sectors/first-nations.html

Our platform helps First Nations:

  • Improve emergency preparedness: Document evacuation routes, road accessibility, changing conditions and hazards that could affect community safety.
  • Monitor road health: Track road conditions, deterioration, accessibility and infrastructure changes over time.
  • Build sovereign territorial records: Create and retain Nation-controlled evidence of conditions and activities within their territories.
  • Support negotiations and advocacy: Develop historical records and evidence packages to support discussions with government, industry and other stakeholders.
  • Track changes to the nation over time: Observe environmental, infrastructure and land-use changes using repeatable, location-based documentation in an easy to use package.

The goal is straightforward: Help First Nations build and control their own territorial intelligence.

Evidence, not just pictures.

The opportunity

We're at an exciting stage of growth and are looking for someone who wants to make their mark.

You'll help us establish relationships with First Nations, identify funding and partnership opportunities, and expand the deployment of BackRoadIntel's Territory Intelligence Platform.

You'll work directly with our leadership team, learning how an early-stage technology company builds partnerships, raises funding, closes deals and brings new technology to market.

Your work will contribute to the growth of a platform we believe could eventually serve First Nations across Canada.

What you'll be doing

  • Build relationships with First Nations leadership, emergency management teams, economic development organizations and other community representatives.
  • Introduce BackRoadIntel and help communities understand how territorial intelligence could benefit them.
  • Help identify and complete funding program applications, community investment opportunities and partnerships that could support technology deployments.
  • Coordinate presentations, product demonstrations, proposals and follow-up meetings.
  • Attend Indigenous conferences to meet communities and partners, support negotiations and help close deals
  • Identify opportunities to work with Indigenous businesses and regional distribution partners.
  • Help shape our First Nation sales approach, partnerships and national growth strategy.

Who we're looking for

You might have recently graduated from business, entrepreneurship, marketing, Indigenous studies, environmental management, communications or another related program.

Your degree matters less than your attitude. ambition and work ethic.

We're especially interested in someone who:

  • Is energetic, outgoing, curious and comfortable meeting new people.
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset and wants to help build something from the ground up.
  • Is motivated by doing meaningful work, not just earning a paycheque.
  • Is resilient, resourceful and comfortable with the uncertainty of a startup.
  • Can take initiative, solve problems and work independently.
  • Is an excellent communicator who can build relationships and earn trust.
  • Is interested in First Nations communities, emergency management, technology or environmental stewardship.
  • Is based in British Columbia and willing to travel throughout the province to close business.

You don't need years of sales experience to succeed in this role. We're looking for potential, initiative and a genuine desire to learn.

Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset, but not required. Respect, humility and a willingness to listen and learn are essential.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to get involved early in a company with national ambitions and a mission that matters.

You'll have the chance to:

  • Work directly with experienced technology entrepreneurs.
  • Build relationships with community leaders and decision-makers.
  • Gain hands-on experience in business development, technology commercialization and fundraising.
  • Take ownership of meaningful projects and see the results of your efforts.
  • Help shape a growing company's direction and success.
  • Grow into a larger role as the company expands.

We're looking for someone who wants to help execute our mission to help all First Nations in Canada

Engagement and compensation

This opportunity will initially be structured as a three-month independent contractor engagement, with compensation and performance incentives to be discussed based on experience and the agreed scope of work.

At the end of the initial three months, we intend to review the relationship and explore a longer-term opportunity based on performance, business progress and the availability of funding based on the results you've achieved.

We're an early-stage company. Things will move quickly, priorities will evolve and there will be uncertainty. We want to be upfront about that.

For the right person, we believe there's a meaningful opportunity for personal and professional growth as BackRoadIntel expands.

Location

British Columbia, Canada. Preference for candidates able to travel regularly to meet First Nations communities and partners across BC.

Interested?

Tell us a little about yourself, why this opportunity interests you, and why you'd like to help build a technology company focused on First Nations territorial intelligence.

We're more interested in your ambition, initiative , energy and motivation than in a polished résumé.

Pay: $60,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
