What they need

Gear that's born here. Worn everywhere.

Since 1992, Cactus Outdoor has been designing and making hard-wearing clothing and gear for people who live, work and play outdoors. Designed for New Zealand conditions by a team that actually uses the gear themselves.

Over thirty years on, we've got the pedigree of an established Kiwi brand and the energy of a company that's still very much growing. Our stores, trade show booths and commercial customers are where that growth is happening, and we're looking for the person to tie it all together.

The opportunity

This is a rare chance to shape how a proud Kiwi brand shows up, in every store, at every tradeshow and in every business relationship.

You'll sit at the centre of Cactus's commercial and retail operations with real ownership and visibility. You'll work directly with the Head of Sales and the Commercial Sales Account Manager, and you'll lead the Auckland Store Manager and the Christchurch retail team. If you're a self-starter who'd rather make things happen than wait for instructions, this role is built for you.

It's also a role with room to grow. We're expanding, and we want people who want to grow with us.

What you'll focus on

B2B: win and grow commercial customers

  • Respond to and qualify inbound commercial enquiries, passing larger or strategic accounts to the Head of Sales or Commercial Sales Account Manager
  • Prepare quotes for small to mid-sized orders using our approved pricing tools, protecting margins and communicating pricing, terms and lead times clearly
  • Hunt down new opportunities in our retail customer base, store enquiries, and local businesses, clubs and organisations in each store's region
  • Build and look after a portfolio of smaller commercial accounts, checking in regularly to keep their business and uncover repeat orders
  • Coordinate custom branding and made-to-order requests with our design team, factory and suppliers, and follow every order through to delivery
  • Keep customers informed on order status and lead times, and sort out issues quickly and professionally
  • Keep the CRM current with every lead, quote, order and interaction

Retail: make every Cactus store feel like Cactus

  • Work with the Head of Sales to define and document clear customer experience standards across all locations
  • Visit stores regularly, see delivery first-hand, and give Store Managers constructive feedback and practical support
  • Run and report on customer experience measures, including mystery shops, store audits, customer feedback, review scores and complaint trends
  • Support retail staff in responding to customer enquiries across email, phone and live chat, and escalate anything complex

This isn't a store management role. Store teams keep day-to-day running, staffing and performance. You'll work alongside them to set up, measure and support consistency, and escalate to the Head of Sales where needed.

Trade shows: put Cactus on the stage

  • Plan and execute our trade show presence from start to finish

What you'll bring

  • Alignment with Cactus's values and a genuine love of the outdoor life
  • At least 2 years' experience in sales, business development, account coordination or multi-site customer experience
  • Exceptional customer service instincts, and the ability to define what good looks like and help others deliver it
  • Strong relationship skills, including influencing and earning buy-in from Store Managers and teams without relying on direct authority
  • Experience preparing quotes and managing orders from enquiry to delivery
  • Proficiency with CRM software (e.g. Capsule or similar) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • An analytical mind that can turn customer feedback, audit results and sales data into practical action
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to juggle multiple priorities across B2B and retail
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication
  • Get-up-and-go: you make things happen without waiting to be asked
  • A full driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly to other stores and trade shows

Why Cactus

  • Flexibility. We keep things flexible and trust our people to do their best work
  • Backing. We back good people to do good work
  • Growth. We're growing, and there's room to grow with us
  • Location. A permanent role in the Christchurch CBD

If you're ready to help take a much-loved Kiwi brand to the next level, we'd love to hear from you. Send us your CV and a short note on why Cactus and why this role.
