What they need
About HeyIT
HeyIT helps businesses with IT support, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, Apple device management and networking. We focus on making business technology straightforward, with approachable people and clear advice rather than unnecessary jargon.
We’re a small, growing business with an informal, collaborative team and a start-up feel. You’ll work closely with our founder and technical team, contribute ideas and see the impact of your work.
We’re looking for a Business Development Executive to help us reach more businesses, build relationships and turn interest in our services into genuine sales opportunities.
This is an entry-level opportunity with room to develop. Graduates and people starting or changing their career are welcome, but a degree isn’t essential. We’re more interested in how you communicate, organise yourself and approach the work.
About the role
This is a hands-on role combining business development, marketing and events. It isn’t just posting on social media or attending networking events. A significant part of your week will involve researching potential clients, starting conversations, following up and keeping opportunities moving.
You’ll help businesses understand what HeyIT offers and identify where we could help them. You won’t need to be an IT engineer, and you won’t be expected to independently design technical solutions. Our founder and technical team will support you with technical discussions, proposals, pricing and closing deals.
Alongside sales activity, you’ll help with our social media, newsletter, website visibility, trade shows and business events. You’ll also contribute to improving how we organise our sales and marketing as we grow.
What you’ll be doing
Business development and sales support
- Research businesses that could benefit from HeyIT’s services and identify the right people to contact.
- Start conversations with potential clients through LinkedIn, email and phone.
- Follow up consistently with enquiries, event contacts and prospective clients.
- Ask questions to understand a business’s current IT arrangements, challenges and requirements.
- Arrange introductory calls and meetings for qualified opportunities.
- Support the preparation of proposals and presentations, working with our founder and technical team.
- Keep our CRM up to date with contact details, conversations, deal stages and next actions.
- Develop relationships with businesses and potential referral partners.
Marketing and visibility
- Help plan and write content for LinkedIn, other social channels and our newsletter.
- Turn our services, client questions and team expertise into useful, straightforward marketing content.
- Support website content updates and SEO activity to improve how potential clients find HeyIT.
- Help run campaigns around our services, events and business priorities.
- Track which activities generate enquiries and worthwhile conversations, rather than just likes or impressions.
Events and trade shows
- Help research, organise and promote trade shows, business events and HeyIT-hosted sessions.
- Coordinate practical details such as bookings, invitations, materials and reminders.
- Attend events to represent HeyIT, meet potential clients and explain what we do.
- Record relevant contacts and make sure conversations receive proper follow-up.
Organisation and improvement
- Work with our founder to agree weekly priorities and review progress.
- Keep sales and marketing tasks organised so commitments and follow-ups don’t get missed.
- Suggest improvements to our outreach, messaging and internal processes.
- Help identify what is working, what isn’t and where we should focus our effort.
What we’re looking for
- Clear, friendly communication, both in writing and when speaking with people.
- Willingness to contact businesses you haven’t spoken to before, including by phone.
- Good organisation and the ability to follow through without constant reminders.
- An interest in technology and how businesses use it.
- Willingness to learn about our services and ask questions when something is unfamiliar.
- The ability to write natural, professional emails and social media content.
- A practical approach: you’re happy to contribute ideas, but also do the research, follow-up and admin needed to make them happen.
- Resilience when someone doesn’t reply or says no.
- Comfort working in a small business where priorities can change.
Previous experience in sales, customer service, marketing, events or a customer-facing job would be useful, but isn’t essential. Experience using LinkedIn, CRM software or website tools is also welcome.
What working here is like
You won’t be joining a large sales department with everything already mapped out. We’re still building and improving our processes, and you’ll be involved in that.
You’ll have guidance and support, but you’ll also need to take initiative, keep track of your work and flag when you need help. Some days will involve meetings or events; others will involve prospect research, outreach, writing content and updating records.
Events may occasionally involve travel or attendance outside normal office hours. Any arrangements will be discussed in advance.
We want someone who enjoys contributing to a small team, takes feedback well and wants to grow with the business.
What success looks like
As you settle into the role, we’ll agree clear, achievable objectives. These will focus on:
- Building a relevant, well-organised prospect list.
- Starting worthwhile conversations with potential clients.
- Generating qualified meetings and sales opportunities.
- Following up reliably and maintaining an accurate pipeline.
- Delivering agreed marketing and event activity.
- Helping turn opportunities into new clients, with support from the team.
What we offer
- Support to learn about managed IT services and develop your sales and marketing skills.
- Commission on new clients you help bring on board, in addition to your base salary. The scheme and payment terms will be explained during the recruitment process.
- Direct access to the founder and technical team.
- A varied role with responsibility and room to contribute ideas.
- The opportunity to help shape how a growing business approaches sales and marketing.
Pay: £25,420.00-£30,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
- On-site parking
- Private medical insurance
- Profit sharing
- Referral programme
- Sick pay
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Edinburgh EH14 1BY: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Application question(s):
- What interests you about joining HeyIT in a role combining sales outreach, marketing and business events? A few sentences is enough.
- This role involves contacting potential clients by phone, email and LinkedIn, including businesses that haven’t heard of us before. How do you feel about this part of the job?
- What kind of team environment brings out your best work? Tell us about a time you worked with others to get something done and the part you played.
Licence/Certification:
- UK Drivers License and are able to travel via car (required)
Work authorisation:
- United Kingdom (required)
Work Location: In person
